Description

Orroral Ridge makes a pleasant outing, with most crags being a pretty flat walk along the ridge and nestled among the trees. There's plenty of shade but you can also find some winter sun on the ridgetop. Most climbs are short, often very short, and offer a good range of technical problems.

Access issues inherited from Australian Capital Territory

If you have benefited from climbing access and infrastructure in the ACT, please consider joining the Canberra Climbing Association (CCA). The CCA spends considerable behind-the-scenes time and effort managing access for the climbing community to ACT climbing areas.

Membership is inexpensive and provides a great way to keep up-to-date with access issues, codes of conduct and general goings on in the ACT climbing community. Membership also provides discounts for local outdoor retail and climbing gyms.

Approach

Drive up Apollo Road all the way to the campground and the squashed remains of the Honeysuckle Creek Tracking Station (at the end of the bitumen). The dirt road, starting on the right through a gate, provides access to all the 'Orroral Ridge' outcrops. The condition of the road varies, but 2WD is generally possible. Beyond 'Honeysuckle Crag' the road winds up to a carpark where, once upon a time, a big scaffolding tower stood, above 'Tower Rocks'. The road passes a turnoff on the left (locked gate) which leads past 'The Battlements' and into the 'Orroral Valley'. See topo/map.

There is a GeoPDF hosted at https://www.dropbox.com/s/99di8p7uzr65rfw/October%2022.pdf?dl=1 which has the post-fire tracks in it. Best run on your phone with something like Avenza.
