Ascents of Riding the Quayle

With a accidental wandering into the Beetlemania crux at the top of pitch 1

We did the last 2 pitches of this. Maybe started up Tschard to get to the Belvedere. Not sure. First pitch had a good undercling move through bulge to an alcove at 40 m. Second pitch went up a rib to right then trended left up nice intermittent cracks to the right edge of the Belvedere. Overall felt 16ish.

Really enjoyable despite a bit of moss and lichen. Thought all pitches were of equal difficulty, certainly felt that I might fall off each of them. I think Louise might have gone more direct on the third pitch than the original, hence a bit harder than we were expecting. Or that could just be me.

The second and third pitch are quite good, better than the first pitch I think. Rough idea of pitch grades P1 17 one stand up move at the bolt P2 18 P3 16

Nice climbing. Looks a bit shit from the ground and if you’re grabbing holds that nobody is using then you’ll have a moss fest.

Not very sustained but good gear and a couple of worthwhile tricky sections.

Only had time for the first pitch before the sun started frying. Pretty good route. A bit balancey but not that hard. One bolt up high on the first pitch. At the low tricky groove step right for a move. Going straight up the groove would be trickier.
