Unreal jam session up top, so worth it. Wanted a second lap, this time starting with the offwidth. Felt like I battled up it for ten minutes before looking down to see I was barely off the ground. Gave up on that and went back to the corner start.

Despite appearances, the direct start is way waaaay better and protects fine with a #4 at the back of the crack. Bit flared but… maybe best not to fall on it.

Picked up Canadian Dane from the side of the access track cause he was looking for a partner. After faffing up neon philharmonic we learnt that he was only here for the day before leaving again so onto the 3 star classics it was. Got an absolute masterclass in offwidth technique on the direct start, super valuable stuff. Putting some actual technique to the grunting... Still fuckin nails, but felt way less desperate. The rest didn't feel bad at all, feet everywhere you need them at any point. Gotta work on my pump management badly tho

Suck it Infinity, this time you didn’t get the best of me. 2x seconds, 1 retreat on lead, 2-3 hangdogs… Thanks Jack Seawright for patient 35 minute belay, Matthew Robbins for introducing me to the route, Pete for 1hr+ belay on first lead attempt and apologies to connor for the sandbag having to second this on your 2nd ever day crack climbing…… What a bloody fun route Now for resurrection corner and devil’s dihedral…..

Wonder how many tie ins it’ll take for this to stop being so scary…. according to Heath Black episode on the layback podcast they did it back in the day with only 5 hexes… and I’m still shitting my pants with a double rack of cams and quads in purple + green… How does a gumby develop true grit and overcome irrational fear on a splitter crack with gear that’s probably safer to fall on than bolts……..

Such an awesome route! But very long and exhausting. Attempted the original start but quickly bailed to the non-masochistic start. A few tricky moves in the first half that was dispatched with a bit of thinking required. The diagonal hand crack was a beautiful line, but sustained with limited feet. Got exhausted by the sheer length of the climb and also ran out of #1 and #2 cams, so had to improvise by running it out a bit, recycling and shuffling cams. Fortunately all the placements are bomber! Crack widens to #3 size at the top (yay I have protection again) and eased off significantly to my great relief! Definitely a classic!
