Ascents of Big Bird having Beta

Great effort all round, particularly up the burly lay-back. Not sure what was so tricky about the third pitch but maybe I skipped something key.

Fun climbing, especially P2. Linked P1 and P2.

Very fun climbing, layback 2nd pitch was mega.

The second pitch is the money pitch. I highly recommend taking crack gloves on this one. That would make it much more enjoyable. The third pitch is a super fun one move wonder (it is easier than it looks once you commit).

Managed to get a little lost on the 2nd pitch. Everything was covered in lichen. So I got lost on a sport route

2nd pitch is nice, the rest is forgettable. Pretty soggy at 20, especially for the Gib.

Very nice! Exposed layback + hands free slab + THE BEAK! A lot fun.

Don’t understand why this one isn’t more popular. Probably one of the best multi at the grade around Sydney. Awesome climbing from bottom to top

Lead the lay back pitch 2 with a few rests. Would like to go again & do it clean. Would like to lead the funky beak pitch 3 too.

First pich: Lead by Oscar, i seconded all free. Second pitch: Lead by me. Had a few rests up the crack (first serious crack I've climbed), but climbed all through moves clean. Third pitch (beak): Lead by Oscar. Seconded it all free, didn't use the tree.

Finally did this. It's been a goal for a while now. Great route especially 2nd pitch, pumpy as! The finish on the beak is just awesome and tops off the climb.

This is an absolute classic with wonderfully and uniquely featured rock plus the belay stance (or seat) at the top of the second pitch looking out over the valley bathing in the moonlight and ethereal glow of the stars is just serene. Another perfect night multi as the rock is nicely warmed by the afternoon sun. Enjoyment/10 [seconded all pitches]

pitch 1 only. felt harder than a 17. really had to work for it. think i read the route wrong and ended semi chimneying up the crux section. very mossy (slippery) on the left wall. had to bail as we ran out of sun and had no torches. next time...

Such a lovely climb! I wonder if one could link it all up with a 70m meter rope and skipping/extending a few draws.

Lead the 2nd pitch, seconded the first and third. Took a decent fall when I pulled off a big hold at the end of the layback section at the start of the second pitch, ended up below my belayer!

Second p1/2, led P3 all clean. Kind of a shame it wasn't left as a mixed route, it wouldn't have needed many bolts.

Wasn't planning to do this when I got up this morning, but was a good day for drone filming and the views here are amazing.

Finally worked out the beta at the bulge.

Way over-rated, especially p3. Pitch 2 is super funky, combine it with pitch 1 (basic access). You can probably rap off the p2 anchors directly to the ground with a 60m rope, we had 67m. Led p1 and p3 clean, p2 second clean.

Great climb although some spots need a bit more cleaning. Pitch 2 and 3 definitely highlights with jamming and one of the weirdest moves iv ever done. Onsighted P1 and P3 and clean second of P2. Would recommend this!

diverse climbing in 3 pitches - pitch 2 is quite challenging but pitch 3 is what its all about - pure weirdness

Not quite classic, but unique and really cool. Most jamming I've ever done on a sport route. Led the 2nd pitch in a dry-mouthed hungover haze, but had to pull on the draw to get over the crux bulge, which may be harder than 20 and won't be getting any easier. Bring a brush for the last pitch as it is still cleaning up.

Closest non-sandstone to Sydney, get on it and get funky.

Fantastic climbing, a lot 'traddier' than I thought it would be, Lots of cool jamming and liebacking. Climbed with Sam and Damon. Onsighted pitches 1 and 3. Seconded Pitch two and fell at the crux. I think the crucial flake may have pulled off to the left. Great day out. Still a fair amount of loose flakes and moss, but will clean up with more ascents. Get on it.

Only pitch 3 this time and did it instead of Comyn's last pitch which is supposedly a hike. I will never try to copy anyone else's technique on this beak because it doesn't work!

Top Pitch only, this time. Climbed with Marek as part of a Comyns-Big Bird linkup (to avoid the Grade 10 doddle pitch at the top of Comyns). Funky moves to gain the "beak", heaps more fun on LEAD (clean) this time, rather than on second. Fist Jams and Offwidth technique for the WIN! (Though Marek disagrees with me on that).

Climbing Big Bird was a really great way to end the afternoon, especially when Paul and I thought the rain was going to alter our plans. A very interesting mix of slabbing, steepish lay-backing and leg jamming makes this climb great quality. I loved the rock feature on the third and final pitch which resembled that of a beak. I must say I found it was a battle getting over the top of it, but leg jamming seem to be my only option. P1 - Onsight, P2 - Second Clean, P3 - Onsight.

With Marek. P1 - Second (clean), P2 - Onsight, P3 - Second (clean). A great way to escape the crag, and good fun as well. P2 is the most involved (with some steep laybacking, an awkward crack/corner, and a hard friction-slab-esque move over a bulge), but the "beak" feature on P3 is intriguing and guarantees much hilarity. Good value.
