A Crag Guide gives an extensive view of all sub areas and climbs at a point in the index. It shows a snapshot of the index heirachy, up to 300 climbs (or areas) on a single web page. It shows selected comments climbers have made on a recently submitted ascent.

At a minor crag level this should be suitable for printing and taking with you on a climbing trip as an adjunct to your guidebook.

Long/Lat: 152.504148, -28.077252

Description:© (gremlin)

Mt Greville is one of the several mountains around Boonah which is protected by the Moogerah Peaks National Park. The rock is tightly fused trachyte in various stages of errosion up to about 300m in height.

Useful Info: The nearest towns by distance are: Aratula, Mt Alford and Boonah.

There is no camping, water, BBQ's or facilities of any kind.

Various rare and endangered flora and fauna can be found around the peak including:

Westringia Sericea

Hibbertia Hexandra

Plectranthus Alloplectus

Acacia brunioides subsp. brunioides

Arundinella Grevillensis

Leionema Gracile

Grevillea Linsmithii

Comesperma Breviflorum

Melaleuca Groveana

Arundinella Montana

Black-Breasted Buttonquail

Powerful Owl

Brush-tailed Rock Wallaby

Important

Don't urinate or crap in the gorges, they are creeks!

Be dicreate and respect the environment when you are here.

There is a general agreement not to climb around Palm Gorge.

It is a very unique micro-environment, leave it for future generations.

The rock quality isn't great and the walls are covered in vegetation.

Don't ruin access for others by climbing in this amazing place...

Approach:© (gremlin)

From Boonah head west on Boonah - Fassifern Road to the Cunningham Hwy. Drive SW towards Cunningham's Gap passing thru Aratula. Turn left at the Spicers Gap Sign (google maps say Lake Mooerah Rd). Follow this road for 8+ km as it wraps around view of Mt Greville on your right. (road turns to dirt at some point, no 4wd necessary. Do not turn down signed Spicers Gap Road, keep going past the reservoir/lake on your left) Then turn right into Mt Greville Rd and find small the NP parking lot ahead. Approach for Wizard and Grey sectors towards Waterfall gorge.

One could probably approach this from the east as well.

No toilets or running water at car park.

RouteGradeStyleSelected ascents
1 Lobster Boy and the Purple Krabs

Climb ledges to V groove and stuck nut. Traverse left to avoid V groove and up short ramp to mantle into slight hollow. Over bulge onto ledge then carefully left to large tree belay. To walk off scramble up onto the ridge proper and walk along it for 20m or so. You should spy a ramp you can walk off to the right.

Start: From the tourist track at the base of the gorge, facing upstream. Scramble up onto the large ledge on the right side of the gorge. This should put you at the base of the cliff in the topo image. Follow the cliff line about 10m right of the ridge proper till you find a grey water mark.

FA: Owen Klan, Dan Roe, 2005

12Trad 20m
2 Illogical Progression

An adventure route that traverses the obvious right leaning ramp high up on the wall of the south east ridge side of waterfall gorge. Double ropes and a bunch of long slings are advised.

Start: As the tourist track drops into 'Waterfall' Gorge. Walk upstream for 10m until you spy a small palm tree on the left.

  1. 45m (4) Scramle up past palm tree onto ledge, left off the ledge to climb up a small arete (groundfall potential) to a small tree. Go left to find some gear then right up the line of least resistance past a few small bushes. Climb up the arete a little toward the obvious ramp before traversing left across the mank to belay off the fig tree.

  2. 50m (11) Traverse right off the belay and climb up the arete and ledges with great care to get established on the slab. Good gear in the corner up the slab, when it runs out continue right. Keep heading out right for a spicy exposed finish up to a large tree belay.

  3. 45m (2) Beat your chest and swing through the trees off toward the right. Up a small patch of rock and walk off down the tourist track on south east ridge.

Very high and very intimidating. This wall hasn't been climbed on in some time.

RouteGradeStyleSelected ascents
1 Desecration

A fairly sustained climb of good length (940 feet). the rock is very good apart from the first two pitches, but the runners are few and far between.

NOTE: This route was originally measured in feet, take lengths in metres with some salt.

Start: In middle of main north face, left of yellow overhang, D on rock.

  1. 35m (11) Up 25 feet [7m] to tree, traverse right 40 feet [12m] to larger tree, up right to small ledge and peg belay (left in).

  2. 20m (5) Tend right up dirty corner to large blocks and platform, cracker belay.

  3. 30m (8) Left around corner into chimney, up chimney, exit right to block belay.

  4. 40m (11) Up right to smooth slab, traverse right then bridge up steep corner and tend left on beautiful rock to bush belay.

  5. 35m (16) Over easy rock for 30 feet (10m) to base of wall, straight up on small holds to blank wall, strenuous move up using peg for direct aid, now climb straight up until level with tree on right, then desperate traverse right to ledge.

  6. 25m (14) Straight up for 40 feet (12m) then hard traverse left to little gum tree on small ledge, peg belay.

  7. 40m (12) Down 15 feet (5m), traverse left for 20 feet (5m), now straight up slabs and small walls to tree belay on 2nd veranda.

Long/Lat: 152.506551, -28.077600

Description:© (gremlin)

All day shade makes this a great summer crag (when its not wet!). Bolts are high and well camouflaged.

Don't remove vegetation from the base of climbs like other silly twits have been!

Approach:© (gremlin)

From carpark, follow signs to waterfall gorge, drop into the obvious gorge at cairn on right and trek up the cool and narrow gully/gorge. Rock-hopping and dead tree clambering for 800? meters (it feels further). In the last 10 mins you'll have to crawl up some steep rocky slopes. Head Trauma is easily spotted as a white streak-crack on a black wall.

RouteGradeStyleSelected ascents

It is directly off the track 150-200m downstream from the actual Grey Wall on the right.
