Had meant to do this for a while. Credit to yim for pulling this motley gang together to crack out the ascent while im still around. Yims barney on-the-ground recruitment, Thomas Zambon stormed up the slab and impressed everyone. Then yim stormed up to the beginning of the runout, explained that if it wasnt for the rubber on his shoes sweating, hed be interested in leading the runout. A heroic victory for the lads. Great to see some trad frothers getting thrown together for a day in the hills

An amazing day out for sure. Great to get to climb with both Jack and Tom and looking forward to more trips with the both of them!

Gear

  • Cams: 00-4 (DMM)
    • Doubles up to 2
    • Dragonfly 2-4 useful too
  • Wires: small-medium
    • Half-nuts / RPs
  • A dozen bolt plates or so
  • No skyhook was necessary

Pitches

  1. Robert Hartley, onsight

Accessing the 1 bolt belay at the top of the ramp wa a bit sketchy with all the grass in the way. Either start from the ground or take it easy!

Otherwise fun cruisy climbing with good gear throughout. The line wanders slightly, so bring some extenders.

This pitch felt closer to grade 18, and is certainly easier than pitch 3.

  1. @Yimbo, onsight

Spectacular lead by Yimbo!

Very sparse & marginal gear until you get to the roof proper. Half-nuts / RPs might ease the mind a bit. Couldn't spot the stainless carrot mentioned in the description at all!

  1. Robert Hartley, onsight

More fun climbing dancing between the corner and the arete to the left. Good gear throughout with a bit of a runout at the start.

0 (DMM) cams for the belay, and a very flexible peg!

  1. @Yimbo, half-toprope-onsight

Spectacular top-rope by Yimbo!

Pulling the mantle above the aid section would be tricky if I were any shorter.

The top slab was definitely the standout for me! At first glance it appears improbable, but the hands and feet just keep coming where you need them. This would've been a heady lead though (great work Tom), and I'm psyched to come back and tick it myself!

Although this belay was cold and uncomfortable, I was warmed by Jack Seawright's and Thomas Zambon's heckling as Yim braved the upper slab. Poor bloke.

Everything we were after plus a little. Started at 6 from lwr portals campground following kangaroo trails and the ridge line thru the Tom tums. Found ourselves a bit off route descending isolated (stay SE if not rappelling?). Wild views and exposure up north peak then followed a path of sorts into the lenticular cloud to gain east peak. Bailed on descending via savages opting for SE ridge instead. Arrived at yellow pinch just in time to avoid the impending thunderstorm, waited that out, and limped back to camp in time for a twilight swim. Circuit took us just shy of 12hrs. Great to spend time in the mountains with James but we ought have less preexisting ailments for our next adventure I think.

Exciting times on this one... thought I was on route climbing towards the "prominent L-facing corner" when I pulled a massive death block about 3 meters from the corner. Somehow managed to (mostly) dodge the block and thankfully it didn't hit Lauren down below. Really thankful I got away with only bruises and a fractured pinky...

Big day out with Liana, starting at 5:45 at LP car park. The day held the most vertical bush bashing I'd ever done, plenty of back of forth route finding to get down some of the peaks, enjoying some pretty wild vistas, a bit of exposed slab and plenty of Grass trees to poke you in the ears, eyes and nostrils on ascent. We navigated around one of Toms Tums after staring at it and thinking 'that looks a bit much', going east around the base with some more bush bashing through the veg and battling with some stubborn vines. We came to a gully with a fixed line, pulled some moves to get up out of the gully and once again were faced with a bit more gardening. Staring over at Isolated Peak we had the same thoughts of 'that looks a bit much', but before we knew it we were well above our previous peak and hadn't had much bowel quivering exposure to contend with. We kept up a consistent pace, stopping at each peak to take in the views and the overwhelming size of the landscape around us. We had amazing conditions for most of the day with cool temps, sunshine and great visibility right up until entering the clouds on East peak. We descended via South Ridge as we knew we'd be hiking some of it in the dark and wanted a well marked option to easily find our way back to Yellowpinch, where a jar of pickles was waiting. We reached the car around 7pm, still laughing, smiling and maybe a bit delirious.

Picked up Canadian Dane from the side of the access track cause he was looking for a partner. After faffing up neon philharmonic we learnt that he was only here for the day before leaving again so onto the 3 star classics it was. Got an absolute masterclass in offwidth technique on the direct start, super valuable stuff. Putting some actual technique to the grunting... Still fuckin nails, but felt way less desperate. The rest didn't feel bad at all, feet everywhere you need them at any point. Gotta work on my pump management badly tho

What an absurd adventure that will stick with me for the rest of my life! We both expected this route to be demanding and boy did it exceed all expectations. The early march up the mountain was really stunning, watching the layers of mountains slowly appear around us.

The route threw in its fair share of challenges, with a few crimps exploding here and there, but overall, it was epic. I found pitch 5 and 6 incredibly fun… traversing out into the abyss and gaining the odd jug to be able to turn around and bathe in the exposure, and then punching up into some great solid moves. Unreal.

To go from a totally unseasoned gym climber a couple of years ago and hearing about this mega, seemingly unattainable route, to gaining enough experience to get up it, was a very surreal moment for me. Big ups to Bryn for being a weapon of a partner to train and execute this with!

Mega push from the boys. Never had a more stressful day in my life - glad to have had such an experience. Highlights were the gorgeous sunrise, the horrible sounds that came out of my mouth climbing past the overhang on pitch 7, Laura's BBQ scrolls at the top of pitch 9, the absolute screamer I took on pitch 14, and the downright F tier banter (as usual). Won't ever forget the crazy mix of emotions I felt after getting back on the horse and pulling up to the anchors on pitch 14. What a day!

The original plan was to send the 3 of us up then go into borderline 29, couldn't be further from what happened. Marty had an absolute fight in the grove trying his hardest not to jam, Dave grunted up next. Then I actually found it easy??? Am I actually improving my jams now that some others are finding it more difficult, an excellent revelation. Dave wasn't keen on seconding borderline - bailed. I tried the start several times - bailed. Fuckin scary move, had a nut pop on my aid attempt, sent it up p2 of LLL instead. Marty committed to some trembly foot jams, was great to see. Then a shiny sling in the crack made everything worth it. A stuck .5 had me putting on my surgeons gloves and spitting in the crack like a bus full of oldies on a wine tour. Successful extraction had me screaming out to the whole crag. Excellent climbing too!

Rocked up to the crag at a casual 10:30am, did a lap of each side of the access track saying our hellos and finding a rope every route we intended to do this weekend sans the smokestack - chimney warmup it is. I led the start as inefficiently as possible till the point where I got to the final face holds before the chimney and realised that the 3L of beer I sent the night before was having an effect and the likelihood of me getting to the top without filling the chimney with vomit was low - bailed. Marty took the sharp end and went on to give a performance that would leave Elvis jealous for moves. Never heard the fella make so much noise on a climb. We also discovered that bodily sounds from the rear and even whispers are amplified a very large amount from the ledge and down the chimney. Any budding frog musicians should make their way to the top of the stack for their performance needs. Dave seconded up at lightning speed then I tied in again to check Marty's cowboy gear. Dropped a draw off my harness, did some sideways stick retrieval action in the chimney on rappel, all part of the frog warmup experience.

Not an rp, using some rock in the corner for a footer which i felt was off route, at least not direct. Overall a poor experience, hard to protect crux, blew two footers, needed bigger gear or a chock stone i could trust– this one shifts against the hollow face plate. I'll be back.
