17 East Face of North Peak

A fantastic day out with Josh G. A year ago I was on a solo hike up Logan's when I spied this line of what looked like to be a solid crack spanning the base of the East Face of North Peak right through the sweet head-wall to the summit! It must have been at least 250m! Alas, upon reaching the base this year with Josh, it was not to be. That said, it was a fine little adventure nonetheless. Enjoyable slab climbing on decent rock by Barney standards. This is probably best climbed avoiding the final pitch, but we wanted to stay true to the direct line and top out on the summit. The dodgy climbing through the final pitch reminded me of the climbing on the East Peak's mega East Face route. IF anyone would like to do this route and wants a more sure-fire way of reaching the base, I can send you the GPS track file.

There are a few more routes to be done on this face: there is one distinct line to the right and to the left of this route, as well as a big, long, easy slab opposite rocky creek that could be a fun ramble. On the top left of this face, there is an interesting single-pitch overhanging chimney dyke with a continuous crack up its right side. Can be seen from the slabs in the N PEak - E Peak saddle.

Great addition to the existing lineup of Tibro classics. Good to have another multi that finishes on top of the mountain. Pitch 1 was the stand out pitch for me as it involved really cool climbing on classic Tibro rock. From there on it was mostly slabby scrambling with a cool view & position on the "airy ridgeline pitch". Had to finish up via the pitch 8 "classic" which was a 1 move wonder but much better than walking off pitch 7. Definitely not a grade 16 so don't let that scare you too much. I think most pitches after pitch 1 are a bit over graded but I'll leave that for you to decide for yourself

All in all a great day out & the route ended up having 3 parties on it that day, & it was a Thursday! Not much loose rock for a new route but a few crumbly sections. Thanks to the boys for the efforts in adding a such a fun new route to the Mountain!

Out onto the Right side pull and trying to figure out how to release the Left hand out of the undercling and get out onto the face. Had about 5-6 good shots from the start to the half way point but just really stuck on that move. Will need to figure out some toehook or fancy beta to release the left. Checked out the top section which isn't to bad just have to get that 1 move done to it can go. (Skin hates this climb and those sharp underclings take it off faster than i can believe).

Really good climb, but it was a bit hot, I would probably do it earlier in the year next time.

For the first pitch, the route description seemed to make sense after we had climbed the pitch. The second bolt is after the bully, not before. Climb up to the brambles and go slightly right to get to the gully.

For the 4th pitch, if you get confused as to where to go near the top of the pitch, under a more vertical bit of rock, just keep climbing diagonally up and left, past the last FH until you can see the DBB.

Linked with the 2nd pitch of We're Not Worthy. After 'dismantling' the rusty anchor at the top of the 2nd pitch I managed to get a bolt plate on one of the carrots to get down. Next person up take a nut tool (or similar) and you should be able to scrape whats left of a rusty chain link from around the 2nd carrot.
