Das nordöstlich des Fichtelgebirge gelegene Elstergebirge ist ein kleiner eigenständiger Gebirgszug am Oberlauf der Weißen Elster beidseitig der Grenze Sachsen/CZ. In Tschechien werden beide Gebirge als Smrčiny zusammengefaßt.
Die tschechischen Anteile des Elstergebirges, finden sich hier. Geklettert wird hauptsächlich am Goethefelsen mit 113 Routen. Der markante Felsriegel Hoher Stein, stellt bereits die Grenze zum Westerzgebirge dar.
