Description:

This area is named after the upper danube valley where most of the listed climbs are located. It is part of the Upper Danube Nature Park (German: Naturpark Obere Donau) and is located in the south of Baden-Württemberg in Germany and encloses primarily the districts of Tuttlingen and Sigmaringen.

Access Issues:

Because of nature conservation issues there are some completely restricted areas and climb. For more Information please visit the website of the local climbers club IG Klettern Donautal.

Approach:

From Sigmaringen take the L277 in direction west. After 5km you hit the first crags: 'Dreiecksfels' and 'Aussichtsfelsen'.

From Tuttlingen the L277 winds itself for about 25km through the beautiful Danube valley. Then you reach the 'Schreyfels'.

Description:

A group of small cliffs above Mülheim a.d. Donau and below Kolbingen. Suitable for climbing in the winter season.

The crag is relative new and you may find loose rock. Therefore a helmet is recommended.

Access Issues:
  • Use only the prepared and existing trails.
  • No access from the top!
  • Don't leave the trails.
Approach:

Park at the parking lot at the emergency telephone on the road towards Kolbingen and use the marked trails.

Description:

If driving through the valley, coming from Beuron, the Schreyfels is the first cliff where climbing is allowed. It offers one classic route for beginners (Opakante) and many serious intermediate routes. All routes have at least two pitches and some routes start in the middle of the cliff.

The sector Amphitheater is closed!

Approach:

Park at the resting place at the road below the crag and follow the signs to the crag. Cross the hiking trail.

Description:

The Hausener Felsen (Hausener rocks) are a group of cliffs south of Hausen im Tal, 150 meter above the Danube. They are the most known cliffs of the valley and feature varied climbing in all grades.

During the weekend it can be very crowded and the beginner routes are polished.

Approach:

Driving from Kreenheinstetten park at the parking lot of the so called "Kreenheinstetter Kurve", the first 180 degree turn. From the follow the signs to the crags. First crag, directly above the road ist the 'Parkplatzfels'. Last ones are 'Alter Hausener Wand' and 'Eigerturm'.

Unique Features And Strengths:

Single and multi pitches for beginners, some nice sport climbs for intermediate climbers and the approach is very short.

Description:

The 'Stuhlfels' is located at the north end of Hausen im Tal, above the Ebinger Haus. To the west you will find the 'Dachstein' and on the other side of the valley (east) the so called "Hausener Felsen" (the cliffs of Hausen).

The crag offers a lot routes for beginners and intermediate climbers. Single and multi pitches, overhangs, abseiling and a nice view to Hausen im Tal and the other crags like the 'Alte Hausener Wand'.

Access Issues:

No restriction.

Approach:

Park in the Steinstraße or Bergstraße and respect the parking prohibitions. Walk up the hill to the Ebinger Haus and follow the path that continues to climb the hill until you reach the bottom of the crag.

Description:

The Schaufelsen in the Upper Danube Valley is the largest non-alpine rocks of Germany and an outstanding climbing area. The rock group between 'Traumfels' and 'Blicklefels' has a large alpine tradition. At the main sector are an array of classic and modern routes routes over several pitches. The secondary sectors offer challenging climbing routes.

Germany-wide known is the 'Kaiserweg' with its five pitches, developed by the team Günter Nothdurft and Walter Seeger in 1955. More classics are the 'Alter Ebinger Turm Weg' from the year 1936 as well as the now disused 'Vagabundenweg' from the year 1948. Modern, sometimes extremely serious sport climbing routes can be found at the 'Traumfels', in 'Hölle', in the main sector and at the 'Blicklefels'.

Classic routes with 2 pitches. Crack, dihedral and face climbing. Nice view to the Danube valley.

Access Issues:

All routes in the 'Westwand' which go through the big cave and in the 'Südwand' the 'Bruderweg' are closed.

Approach:

From the parking space follow the marked path to the 'Schaufelsen' and this crag.

1.2.10. Falkenwand 31 routes in Crag

Description:

One of the Winterspots of the Donautal. All routes are bolted but protections are far away from each other and the first bolt is often very high. On the left side of the cliff you will find classic routes from grade 5 to 7. Some of them are already polished. Most climbs follow cracks and dihedrals.

The 'Ameisenweg' belongs to the the musts in the valley and historically the routes 'Falkenwand' and 'Sperberverschneidung' are recommended.

Friends and rocks may be useful.

Approach:

Park 100m before the railroad crossing (from Hausen 4.5km in direction Sigmaringen). From there follow the rails in the same direction until a path heads left up the hill. It is marked as a hiking trail to the ruin Falkenstein. Follow this path until the bottom of the cliff.

Description:

The Friedrichstürme is the first crag (comming from Kirchheim-Teck) on the western downhill side of the Lenningen valley.

Approach:

Leave your car at the hiking parking "Bassgeige" at the northern end of Erkenbrechtsweiler. From there follow the road in north-east direction to a power pole and the official fire and barbecue place. The road ends at the fire place and changes over to a gravel road through the forest. Follow the path until it turns right and look for a smaller path. It should turn off left. Stay on this path straight to the edge of the valley and the head of the 'Großer Turm'.

Description:

The Reußenstein is a cliff located at the end of the Neidlinger valley. On top of the main cliff there is an old castle ruin which gives the place its name. On weekends this is a very popular place for barbecues and the finish of beautiful hikes in the area.

The crag consists of three main sectors. The 'Hauptfels' below the ruin, the 'Mittelfels' and its neighbour 'Nadel' and the 'Südostfels'.

Access Issues:

Because of possible rockfall the sector 'Hauptfels' is closed.

Approach:

Leave your car on the big parking lot at the K1430. From there follow the signs in direction West to the crag (500m).
