Ascents in The Grand Traverse

Super fun scramble with a couple of sections we pitched. Super cool exposure. Super cool views! Completely snow free which made it much more of a relaxing day out to goof off on a mountain

First time on the GT, 9 hours car to car at a comfortable pace,some firm snow on the approach from telecom tower necessitated kicking steps for a little while,low vis up high and windy with a light plastering of rime ice on one side of the ridge just to add a bit of atmosphere to the climb.

Had a go and retreated a couple of days earlier due to the weather. Some thought provoking exposure and epic views. We went under the north buttress of NDC(as QRI&B guide indicates) and found that a bit easier than heading round the SW side. Just over 6 hours car to car with a good stop on SC summit

Took 10 hour to finished it. Very windy and a bit of rain. Luckily the weather didn't turn worse.

Amazing day out with great connies, despite the heat at lower elevations. We stuffed up the approach and ended up on top of Telecom tower, which necessitated a few raps. Was glad I brought the rope, although it was the only time we used it. Did the route proper in under 2 hours, car to car in 4.5 hours. Stoked to finally do this NZ alpine classic!

After work solo. Wandered down the Grand Coloir because I'd locked Ola out of the house. Ended up being pretty quick 2:15 car to car. Such a stunning trip.

A great jaunt with stunning views and exposure! Mostly scrambling with a few thought provoking exposed sections and a novel abseil over snow to finish! Rope only needed for the raps. What a day

Bluebird day in the remarks! After Hilary superman'd it over the handlebars in the bike park a few days before it was always going to be a doubtful attempt but the legend hung in there and was keen for a crack at the GT.

Decided to go full summer fast and light with the stubby crammed full of Panadol glucose and caffeine. Should've crammed in the steel because the GT still held a bit of snow and ice despite the recent warm weather. After reaching the helipad Hils was was less than thrilled at the prospect of taking on the steeper ridge as her first experience above 2000m and I was less than thrilled about descending the visibily snowy south col without adding an unplanned luge ride to the itinerary so we dipped out. Looking forward to round 2!

First winter GT. Totally different experience, still super fun and a classic

Went up for a lap with Neal. We tried to stick to the ridge as much as possible, which made the scrambling a bit more exciting. Made it car to car in about 5 hours

First overseas crag log!! And what a route. We had spent the weekend ski touring for RIMT which had the legs properly sizzling but thankfully ryan understood the importance of the closing ceremony pilgrimage across 'the GT'; a right of passage for people who wish to spend their leisure time trooping along windy ledges. We racked a very minimal stash of ryans gear, a spare harness for me (no atc though, all munters belays), and 1 8.1mm half rope. Theyre called halfropes for a reason but its all good cos you dont fall on the gt. Actually we both fell. Ryan knocked a cornice off a block on the downclimb from double cone and landed in a powder stack after i told him the cornice was 'bomber! Trust it!' and i fell down the hill on the single cone descent. Thankfully none of these falls occured on the numerous pitches up to double cone, each of which we promised would be our last solo pitch. Can confirm i am no better at placing crampons on rock than ive ever been. At times the waiting game with approx 15 people on the route today was abit tedious but having a bunch of quality people to enjoy a remarkables bluebird day with made it up well and truly. Considering quite a few people werent able to make it across, we were stoked to get the job done and parade down the empty ski piste as the sun descended over queenstown. Thankfully bumped into the lads we started the day with at the frankton arm tavern so they didnt really beat us.. we crossed the finish line together.

Didn't pitch anything due to skill level of party and a lack of time. Very nice route

Epic day, between getting lost and finding ourselves on some more fun ground, beautiful slabs, exposed ridge and polished with a late afternoon swim in lake Alta.

Link up with DB eh? Again mostly roped up and simul. So slow going.

From the northern double cone peak after climbing 'alta la vista'. Doesn't get old

Mainly soloing, a bit of simul, and one pitch I led to the left to avoid the rock crux below Double Cone (which was well covered in rime). Gusting westerlies, and low vis added to the atmosphere. Descent via Grand Couloir.
