Unique Features And Strengths:

The diversity of high and steep walls, sharp ridges, rock towers and caves makes it one of the most beautiful and impressive gorge in Romania.

Description:

The canyon, formed through the erosion of the Jurassic limestone of the mountain, is 2 900 m long and the walls have heights reaching 300 m The total surface of the canyon is of 324 ha. From climbing point of view this place is a paradise, being one of the most significant sites in Romania.

Access Issues:

From Cluj-Napoca (airport available) take E60 road to Turda (around 25 km). From Turda there are two possibilities:

  1. Take DN75 road to Campeni. 7 km after passing Mihai Viteazu turn right towards Cheia village. Pass through the village and continue until you’ll see the gorge (east entrance).

  2. Take secondary road and drive towards Petreștii de Jos village. A short walk from the village will take you to the west entrance of Turzii Gorge.

Beautifull limestones rock formation emerging from the hill opposite the village Rimetea

Description:

Distinctive limestone rock formations spreaded on relatively large area approx. 2 square kilometres. Plenty of routes from difficulty 4b up to 7c

Access Issues:

Rimetea can be reached from Aiud or Turda, cities on east border of Apuseni mountains. Parking possible immediately above the village, on the meadow below the rocks.

Approach:

Approach time to sectors depends on distance - from 10 up to 45 minutes, up to the hill

Unique Features And Strengths:

Formation of volcanic rocks with beautiful view to countryside (1450 metres altitude)

Description:

The relief, composed of volcanic rocks, has a unique look: especially in the Mara valley, the ridge depicts as a series of sharp rocks, a true toothed blade similar to the battlements of a castle or to the comb of a mountain cock, as the locals well observed.

Access Issues:

With off road car it is possible to get directly below the crag (200 metres below), or 2 hours walking from Gutai pass where is possible to park the car

2 hours of walk time from Gutai pass (car parking)
