A Crag Guide gives an extensive view of all sub areas and climbs at a point in the index. It shows a snapshot of the index heirachy, up to 300 climbs (or areas) on a single web page. It shows selected comments climbers have made on a recently submitted ascent.

At a minor crag level this should be suitable for printing and taking with you on a climbing trip as an adjunct to your guidebook.

Long/Lat: -117.909119, 35.967379

Unique Features And Strengths:

Climbing consists of basalt rock formations from volcanic activity.

Description:

Fossil Falls is a climbing spot with beautiful basalt rock formations that was once a multitude of waterfalls. The rating of the climbs are typically rated lower than the relative difficulty but it doesnt take away from the great climbing. Almost all the climbs are toprope accessible and there are several areas that can have new routes set up. Nearby is a small bouldering field that consists of a couple well established boulders.

Access Issues:

The lower portions of the falls have experienced territorial disputes with nearby private landowners. These landowners often prevent climbers from using the lower portions but with friendly negotiation it is accessible.

1.10. Black Planets 83 routes in Area

Summary:
All Boulder

Long/Lat: -117.892039, 35.894421

Unique Features And Strengths:

The boulders have a variety of features. There are plenty of sharp crimpy routes, overhangs with slopers, pinches, pockets, and slabs.

Description:

Black Planets is a group of boulders located a few miles East of Fossil Falls but has similar basalt rock formations. Most of the boulders toppled down from the ridge above, and there is a small cliff band of topropeable climbs. Due to the nature of the rock, it can be uncomfortable to climb here during the summer, and may be too cold during the winter. This is a good location for seeking climbing during windy weather.

Ethic:

When climbing here, practice "leave no trace ethics" and ensure that you do not damage any rock or vegetation. Do not climb on any rock with petroglyphs or art on it. Almost all of the obvious lines have been climbed before, but there are still a large amount of hidden gems. Since there are a few local developers that wish to keep information low key, make sure to talk to them before claiming any first ascents.

1.10.1. Boulder1 9 routes in Boulder

Summary:

Long/Lat: -117.895378, 35.900242

One of the furthest boulders from the main parking lot. Has three main faces. A short overhanging one. A long face with multiple routes. And a blank technical face.

RouteGradeStyleSelected ascents
1 *** Unnamed / Black Dance

The flat face of the last boulder in the main group. Several very technical crimp moves to a mantel to topout.

V3 Boulder
2 *** Unnamed 2

Face adjacent to the face that has Unnamed and right to the arete. Start on nice holds and go straight up to topout.

V1 Boulder
3 Unnamed 3

V2 Boulder
4 ** Unnamed 4 / Planetary Traverse

V3 Boulder
RouteGradeStyleSelected ascents
5 *** Unnamed 5

Overhanging face starting with a large jug on the left and a crimp pinch on the right. Pop right to the rail and then hit an edge a little higher. You can use intermediate holds from here or just crank a dyno up to the edges on the lip. Mantle to topout. Very fun. There is a sit start variation that adds a grade or two to the climb.

V2 Boulder
6 Unnamed 5 Variant / Flight of the Voyager

Sit start variant of unknown5 using two small edges and a lot of muscle. Once off the ground pop up to the left and stick the jug. Then get the crimp to the right and continue as if it were the stand start.

V?? Boulder 10ft
7 *** Arete / Queen's Temple

Classic arete to the right of Unknown.

5.8 Boulder
8 Unnamed 6

In between Unnamed 2 and Unnamed 3. Start on small crimpy pinches. Continue straight up more small crimps and mantle to topout.

V3 Boulder 11ft

Description:

A boulder with a large variety of climbs on it.

RouteGradeStyleSelected ascents
1 Unnamed / Moonswinger

Start right, next to a triangular feature that appears loose. Traverse left along edges and slopers, then follow the holds up. The foot beta gets pretty odd at this point and may require swinging.

V2 Boulder
2 Unnamed 2

Arete to the left of Caesar. Starts sitting with feet on a large flat feature.

V1 Boulder
3 Unnamed 3 / Cut the Lights

Face of the boulder left to Comet Comatose. Small crimps and slopers and highsteps to topout. Crux move involves a wide step and reaching high. Very fun!

V1 Boulder
4 * Unnamed 4 / Railgun

Slightly overhung face left to Cut the Lights. Sit start on rail and climb up slopers and edges to topout. Short and sweet.

V2 Boulder
5 Unnamed 5 / Koba

V0 Boulder
7 ** Unnamed 7 / Caesar

Left of Koba, and right of the arete is a face that starts as a sit, and goes up using postive hands and feet, but turns blank at the top. Bad fall zone.

Boulder Project

RouteGradeStyleSelected ascents
1 Unnamed

A line on the overhanging face that starts near the left arete, and continues up and over the prow using small crimps, sidepulls, heel hooks(maybe), and imaginary slopers. Fun and very difficult.

Boulder
2 Unnamed 2

Boulder
RouteGradeStyleSelected ascents
4 Unnamed 3

On the north face of the boulder is a vertical wall with tons of small sidepull pockets, most of which are too small to fit fingers in. May not be possible. The most technical line in Black Planets so far. The start woud be the hardest, as the feet and hands are basically invisible. About half way up the pockets get slightly bigger, enough to maybe fit the first digit of one finger in.
