Summary

The rock is all smooth limestone with very little texture, forcing you to rely on finger pockets where they exist. Smearing this stone is very difficult because of the lack of texture.

Access issues

This is all private land so can be closed at various points of the year for lamb calving.

Where to stay

Camping in Cragieburn nearby. If you need better shelter, stay in Springfield and drive out.

Ethic

The DOC wants all climbers to register before climbing here: http://climbnz.org.nz/nz/si/canterbury/inland-canterbury/castle-hill-basin/flock-hill

Before you hike out to climb, check in at Flock Hill Lodge. Be sure to check out when you are done. This makes sure if there is an injury that prevents you from returning that they will search for you at the end of the day.
