Mission and Vision

It is theCrag’s mission to build an enduring resource of the world's climbing information, to facilitate sustainable climbing and to support a thriving community.

Our vision is being the number one climbing platform worldwide and in all key climbing countries individually as well as being the market leader with respect to user satisfaction, data quality, completeness, technological leadership and sustainable behaviour.

theCrag provides solutions for

  • climbers - from beginners to competition climbers
  • route setters and guide book editors
  • gyms
  • advocacy groups and other stakeholders of the climbing community as well as for
  • gear manufacturers and climbing camp owners

theCrag contains information about 1,279,400 routes, 70,400 topos and thousands of climbing areas, all entered and maintained by the climbing community for the climbing community and accessible for free by everyone!

theCrag believes that information about climbing areas should not be owned by individuals but by the community of climbers (read more about licensing in the site usage policy). theCrag also recognises the need to support funding of development and maintenance efforts for public climbing areas and works closely with advocacy groups, climbing associations and bolting funds in order to spread their word and reach. Please refer to advocacy groups for more details.

The climbing community and theCrag depend on YOU to achieve these goals. Contribute information, suggest functional improvements and Pay as you feel, we love hearing from you.
