Rad day out! We started our walk in at 6:30 just before dawn, which was lucky because both of our ropes got jammed abseiling down Mirrorball Pinnacle (despite efforts to avoid this, will just use the other rap next time!) Started climbing at 9ish and moved fairly efficiently, rock was cold but weather was nice so it just meant more grip. Had an absolute blast and topped out around 2:30, back at by 3:30ish. Such an adventurous and varied route, thanks Aido, Eoin and James for a 10/10 day!

Rad day out with rickau on the other end and Aidan Howes and Eoin Coleman following us up. Fantastic varied climbing, stunning views and a bunch of nutters base jumping and giant swinging off Pierce's Pass in the background.

  1. Rick dominated pitch 1. As I started the sun came out so I started roasting in my jumper with my backpack. Went the wrong way and took one top rope fall pushing for a jug. Dang.

  2. Leading was going well until I tried to go straight over the top near the end instead of doing the crimpy traverse. Took a decent 3-4m whip! Didn't go far enough left and up for the next belay and made a belay station over on the bolts on the right woops.

  3. So we don't know what this pitch is called – it was not the correct route up Mirroball because we were on the east face, here's what it was like: Up easy ironstone bands with 2 bolts, then diagonal right, super runout (15m) before a final bolt then scramble to lunch ledge. Great work by Rick adventure climbing up this, trust a trad climber.

  4. A few tough moments in this one, why are the bolt plate sections where it gets hard? Was losing friction and nearly whipped but stoked I managed to stay on and nail the right route for the onsight. Mitch Stewart reckons this mega pitch is 19 and tbh I'll take it – it's definitely tougher than pitch 2 and at least as hard as the grade 19 first pitch.

17 Fingers Columbia - with Mike Ashelford Sport 15m, 5 Very Good
Kind of thin with wide moves, took commitment to not come off! Used the arete a bit, probably should have relied on it less but it was so juicy. The undercling helps a bunch.

Followed Mike up. Some dodgy places for protection! A very aesthetic piece of rock.

Start might be the crux. Small slabby moves, hard to see footholds. Nice rock and well-bolted. Clip the piton if you're a legend

Fri 28th Dec 2018 - Mount Keira
West Face
16 Short Legs Sport 12m, 4 Good
Pre-clipped the first bolt for safety. Start was tough, then pretty easy juggy climbing up to loweroffs. Hanging belay to clean was a little tricky with small rings.

19 Everything But The Kitchen Sink! Sport 12m, 7 Very Good
Nails start, worth clipping for safety. Fun climbing up to first ledge. Committing move to good jugs. Final moves are fun. Had short safeties so had to use wet jug and heel hook to get safe for cleaning. Wicked climb with an awesome view.

18 Entrapment Sport 12m, 7 Good
Fun start needs high feet. Very chill up until overhang. Crimpy move needs commitment, awkward fall on first attempt. Got the beta nad roped up again to get it clean. Nice climb with decent anchors. Long safeties help for cleaning!

First pitch very consistent, a few crimpy moves felt slippery in the hot sun. Very fun rock. Second pitch was easier, one section that could be 17 then easy juggy finish.

17 Feathers - with Aidan Howes Sport 18m, 8 Good
Good solid climbing with a cool cave and a bit of runout up top. Kind of forgot this route, not as memorable as the others haha

18 Dance Of The Dodo - with Aidan Howes Sport 18m Very Good
Really satisfying climbing with everything from sketchy dirty slab to a good overhang pull-up, corner and traverse. Bring helmets! Lots of loose rock which makes the tiny foot-holds extra spicy. Had a lot of fun on this one, love the conservative bolting haha

17 A Turkey Named Trevor - with Aidan Howes Sport 19m, 8 Good
Fun climb with an interesting overhang to crack bit and some decent slab. The finish is cool but not that satisfying.

Aidan sent this climb but we were concerned with the way the rope was hanging over a sharp ledge directly below the anchors. He set up 2 long draws for his descent. I flashed the climb and cleaned off the bolt below. I could reach up over the anchors but getting a safety on them was tricky so we decided to save the rope.

Sat 14th Apr 2018 - Mt Ku-ring-gai
Fossil Wall
16 Elbow Abrasions - with Aidan Howes Sport 15m, 4 Good
Feels a little harder and smaller than Legoland, but not by much. Unguarded Moment (the 21 finish to the right) looks super hard from the point where they split.

16 Legoland - with Aidan Howes Sport 15m, 4 Good
Nice fairly juggy climbing and good clips until the crux right before the finish. Tricky and a bit scary, gets pretty slabby without handholds - satisfying to nail it.

16 Vanstone the Vampire - with Max, Aidan Howes Sport 7m, 2 Average
Sketchy high first bolt so we stickclipped and kept it loose. Some cool crimpy stuff higher up, wish it was longer.
