Ascents as various tick types as trad by Ashley Felton

The first, second and fourth pitches make this a good slab route, the third and the topout prevent it from being very good. Pitch one, the starting flake with big layback and reachy traverse was the highlight. Take a couple of large cams for it!

Pleasant enough climbing, worth doing to reach On Edge (above). Use the last third as an opportunity to practice your trad placements.

Kinda slabby

The iconic Arapiles route. An amazing line with some commitment required on the upper two pitches. Beta: take two bolt plates and some large cams.

Good fun on top rope, but suffers a bit from being a one-trick pony (crux traverse). Wouldn't come back for the lead.

This was great fun, a good mix of crimps and balancy moves.

Some good protection is available down lower, but the top of the flake sounds hollow as a drum. Pure pleasure after getting that first bolt clipped.

A properly good slab route, this. Will come back for the lead one day.

Had a spin on top rope. Eh, it was alright. Going to be much harder when that big first flake pulls off soon.

Requires careful footwork and some tough crimps. Somehow everything worked out right.

Didn't trust the cam placement down low, so we did this with the first draw clipped. My favourite route of the crag - at twice the height, it would be a classic route.

A technical, unique mega-classic. First pitch was my pitch of the day.

Okay. A good way to get to the top to retrieve gear.

Not a bad warmup.

Felt weirdly easy, easier than Whisper anyhow. Possibly it was just top-rope induced courage (didn't fancy using the single piton at 12m to protect the whole climb).

Hilariously good fun, on lead. Would be an awful lot more committing to climb it trad.

Has to be one of the best cracks in Perth, well worth the bush-bash. Got part-way on lead, but the crux is a hard one to be placing gear through. Pure pleasure on toprope. Left some skin behind, plus an unrecoverable stopper above the first move (it should be bomber, forever).

Exposure, much? You're going into space if you fall off the second pitch. And that roof chimney on the third! Fantastic route.

Next lead project, maybe.

Sustained and oh so satisfying. This is why we visit. A sensational route.

Found this an awful lot harder than the 14 grade would suggest, more like a 17/18. Mainly due to the difficulty in setting protection, much of the climb was run-out to an unsettling degree. White-knuckle trad climbing at its finest. Lots of loose rock, as you'd expect. Our progress up the face was too slow, so we had to traverse out at the top of pitch two via the Prickle Traverse (this was mercifully a safe and straightforward walk back to the tourist trail). Next time.

You don't get many long multi-pitch routes in WA, but this is serious fun and a great day out. It packs a lot of variety into six pitches, and despite some decent runouts it's good holds all the way. Take a friend or two, a full rack of trad gear, and have an adventure. Expect 1.5h walk in, 7/8h climbing, and 1h walk down,

A short but satisfying trad problem. Two straightforward nut placements.

Such a fun adventure, this route. Not many like it in WA.

Good protection to be had, interesting climbing, nice tense little roof sequence to finish.

Slabby, friendly, easy to protect, short.

Unsure why this has stars; thirty seconds of laybacking off the roof crack is the highlight. I guess that it's pretty unusual in the Perth area.

Sweet little trad line, very protectable.

A short step on the way to Blockbuster. Surprisingly technical. I really should have left my pack behind.

Totally classy. Every pitch a joy to climb.

A fine start to our day. Easy start up the crack, then a gripping bouldery exposed move out onto the face, then lovely moves up the face to finish. You Victorians are keeping all the good stuff for yourselves.

Great fun. First pitch is the harder, more insecure one with some non-obvious moves. Second pitch is a classy box chimney and much more straightforward.

Some tasty exposed bulges to pull through on the second pitch. Shame that it wasn't a little more like that all the way.

A completely superb lineup for these two routes. Second pitch had a surprisingly bouldery start, and that overhang on the third!

Saved the best line for very last. Superb moves on an amazing line. Well-deserved mega classic.

A good trad route to practice with. Small stoppers & cams needed only.

One slightly awkward crux move. A good line, should have got out the trad gear instead of top roping it.

Forgot to bring my machete, so this just sucked. A route best forgotten.
