V4 | ★★★ Welcome to Barbados | 6m | Bowen | ★★★ Classic | Fri 31st Aug 2018
Solo no pad. Feels possibly soft but so jug tastic for granite
V4 | ★★ The Cave | 3m | Bowen | ★★ Very Good | Sat 8th Sep 2018
Thought this would put up more fight! This is easier than half the V2’s at gara, so maybe I have sand bagged gara a little...
V4 | ★★ 1st V4 | 6m | Waverly Park Bouldering | Sun 28th Jul 2013
Quite a nice solid sequence and easier than V4
V4 | ★★ 2nd V4 | 3m | Waverly Park Bouldering | Sun 23rd Jun 2013
Super happy to flash this. My kinda problem with power jugs. Found a sneaky knee bar in the roof. A very easy V4 to Sanguine.
V4 | ★★ Underbelly: Razor - with Ben Vincent | 3m | Cathedral Rock National Park | ★ Good | Sat 6th Apr 2019
Was showing this to Ben as a warmup. In hindsite I now remember that Underbelly starts on the lowest part of the rail and I had worked this line but not sure if I'd actually done it before. I flashed it (thinking it was the V2) and was repeating it, and I think my right crimp was too aggressive, or too early in the morning, or all of the above. A pretty loud crack ended my day before it really started. A2 pulley on right ring finger, probably a grade II / partial tear, so not good but not too bad in the grand scheme of things
V4 | ★★ Hard arete | 5m | Upper Gara Gorge | Sun 6th Nov 2011
Got it again first try. Happy!
V4 | ★ Bug, Powder, Dust | 4m | Handsome Crag | ★★ Very Good | Sat 12th Jul 2014
From stand start, cool finish
V4 | ★ 2.Finger Power | 3m | Freycinet National Park | Sat 21st Sep 2013
V4 | ★★★ Quickdraw roof - with Ben Vincent, Dr Phil | 3m | Upper Gara Gorge | Fri 2nd Feb 2018
Headed for here as it was probably the only dry problem nearby. Raining properly now but worked and resent it in a couple goes. Decided to leave the pads here to get headlamps and come back and see if there was any problems underground in the cave, then got distracted by cold pizza in the car, then by crawling through storm drains, and then the crew turned up for a caving trip and it was only once I was home that I discovered we'd left the pads there! Ben Vincent to the rescue
V4 | ★ Unknown as well | 4m | Upper Gara Gorge | Sun 5th Aug 2012
V4 | ★ Quickdraw Low Traverse - with Joakim, Sabrina | 2m | Upper Gara Gorge | Wed 30th Dec 2015
V4 | ★★ Cripple | 3m | Oatlands | ★★ Very Good | Sun 18th May 2014
Did the more direct version, grab the good pinch with right instead of left, then bump out to jug on right and then chin up as you swing to avoid the dreaded bum dab
V4 | ★★★ Sanguine - with Tommy and Pat | 6m | Oatlands | ★★★ Classic | Sat 4th Jan 2014
Finally sent! One fumbled misstart, but then clean all the way second time. Amazing what is possible when fresh
V4 | ★ 1844 - with Tommy & Simon | 3m | Oatlands | Sun 16th Feb 2014
onsight of first half, over mud with no pad, up to the start of Kitchen Bitch
V4 | ★★ Sit Start | 2m | Cedar Creek | ★★★ Classic | Sun 20th Jan 2013
Really happy, this is a sweet problem. Felt impossibly last time but only took about 4 goes this time to unlock it.
V4 | ★★ Abalone Arete - with tommykrauss | 2m | Bicheno | Sat 7th Dec 2013
Scrunched layback start then cruisy
V4 | ★★★ The curse of the black pinch - with Chris L, DomL, Linda | 5m | North West Bay River | ★★★ Mega Classic | Mon 29th Dec 2014
V4 | ★★ Bong On | 4m | Gordon's Hill | ★ Good | Sun 27th Jul 2014
Took a few goes. Snapped a corner off the Gordon jug The rest is very loose
V4 | ★ V4 Knobs - with Chris L, Mani Baker, Foong | 3m | Oatlands | ★ Good | Sun 12th Oct 2014
Did this but fairly differently to Chris and Foong who could ape their way up to the side pull. I used the left knob (possibly off route?) and just mantled directly up with out the side pull. Probably V3
V4 | ★ Tonight I dine on turtle soup - with Will Goyen | 3m | Upper Gara Gorge | ★ Good | Sun 17th Apr 2016
My back was feeling pretty broken by this stage, gave up went scouting. Came back for one last try or two and three and then caught it.
V4 | ★★★ Jug traverse - with Alan Ezzy, Mark Kawun, Carol Lee | 3m | Kwiamble National Park | ★★★ Classic | Sat 23rd Apr 2016
Lots of pumpy fun, needs some brute force or sneaky heel hooks
V4 | ★★ Selling Us Out (More jobs) - with Alan Ezzy, Carol Lee | 2m | Upper Gara Gorge | ★★ Very Good | Sun 26th Jun 2016
More fun!
V4 V5 | ★★★ Catacomb Roof - with Ben Vincent, Benji Dutaillis, Alan Ezzy, Thor | 3m | Upper Gara Gorge | Thu 4th Jun 2020
V5 ~V5 | ★★★ Ace of spades - with Alec Eastwood | 5m | Mt Yarrowyck | ★★★ Mega Classic | Fri 28th Jul 2023
Was pretty worked and this felt impossible again, just like last time I did it, and then it all just resolves. Maybe 5-6 goes. Bumped it to a V5.
V4 | ★★ Mozzie Rock - with Finn, Noah Craven | 4m | Upper Gara Gorge | ★★ Very Good | Fri 21st Jul 2023
V4 | ★★★ The Face | 4m | Upper Gara Gorge | Sun 18th Apr 2010
V4 | ★★ NE14 The Wave | 3m | Stonehenge | Mon 5th Mar 2018
V4 | ★★★ Cliffhanger - with Lani, Ben, Yen, Jack, Alex, April, Benji Dutaillis | 5m | Stonehenge | ★★★ Classic | Sat 18th Jun 2022
I'm not sure if I've given this a proper work before, I think I've been daunted by the look of it. Got up it after ~6 goes. A few people got up it and consensus is to downgrade it a tad
V4 | ★ M7 - with Benji Dutaillis, Ben Vincent, Denni Heywood, Adhna | 3m | Upper Gara Gorge | Sun 23rd May 2021
V4 | ★★★ Dog Rooter Arete - with Ben Vincent, Alan Ezzy | 3m | Mt Yarrowyck | Thu 7th Mar 2019
Love this even more, a couple goes. Super balancy feet
V4 | ★ VN1 Scott's mantle * - with Alan Ezzy, Ben Vincent, Dr Phil, carol lee | 2m | Mt Yarrowyck | ★ Good | Thu 28th Feb 2019
V4 | ★ G9 Roscoe's Mantle - with Ben Vincent | 2m | Mt Yarrowyck | Sun 29th Apr 2018
Happy to get it again first go
V4 | ★★ Cave exit direct - with Sam | 3m | Waverly Park Bouldering | Sun 10th Nov 2013
Took a couple goes but very happy to send this too. Burly dyno from the undercling rail direct out to lip, then double toe hook while you hand traverse left.
V4 | ★★ Cave alt finish - with Sam | 3m | Waverly Park Bouldering | Sun 10th Nov 2013
Yes! I'd worked this before but been shut down, but got on it fresh and nailed it first time.
V4 | FA ★★ Craypot direct - with tommykrauss | 4m | Bicheno | Sat 7th Dec 2013
Possibly a first ascent? Pretty fun and surprising no one's done it, the void is a bit exciting. Got it second attempt, on my first attempt my whole left calf instantly cramped after the heel hook.
V4 | ★★ Big Red One - with Ben Vincent | 4m | Nowra | ★★ Very Good | Sat 14th Jan 2023
This was a nice problem to work, great moves through the rail, landing the little pocket is ok but marginal and sticking the sloper felt nails but then slowly unlocked and then send train
V4 | ★ Aza's Mantle - with Alan Ezzy, Ben Vincent | 3m | Cathedral Rock National Park | ★ Good | Sat 17th Oct 2015
Knew I didn't have that many attempts on this but had a couple and had pretty well given up as I wanted to save skin and was already pretty hacked for 2nd problem of the day. Then Alan and Ben both got psyched and did it so I pretty well had to do it. Threw badly, mis-caught the holds, fought it, wrestled it, and somehow sent it. More chunks missing now
V4 | ★★ Central railways | 4m | Bowen | ★★ Very Good | Sat 8th Sep 2018
Took a few attempts to find the good bits. Got it fourth go. Up to the big jug but didn’t mantle but that seems to be the meat of the problem done anyway??
V4 | ★★ 25% crack | 3m | Upper Gara Gorge | ★ Good | Sun 3rd May 2020
Not sure if it was the cold temps today but I jumped on this and got it first go. I struggled on this months ago. It certainly is not due to my 'covid training'
V4 | ★★ Cold pop | 1m | Cathedral Rock National Park | ★★ Very Good | Sat 17th Oct 2015
Pretty good, 3rd attempt
V4 | ★★ Compression bandage - with Ben Vincent, Will Goyen, George Plunkett, Carol Lee | 5m | Wallaby Rocks | ★★★ Classic | Sun 10th Apr 2016
Totally sick, very happy to send, worked it maybe 10-15 attempts
V4 | ★★ Tusken raider - with Ben Vincent | 3m | Upper Gara Gorge | ★★★ Classic | Sun 1st Sep 2019
Happy to get this again first go
V4 | ★★ Lowtai Traverse - with Nora | 2m | Middle Head | Sat 27th Oct 2018
More or less warmed up on this but I suspect I wandered differently
V4 | ★★ Compression cycle - with carol lee | 2m | Upper Gara Gorge | ★★ Very Good | Sat 27th May 2017
Thought this would be impossible, but then Carol started scrubbing it, who then gave it a crack and thought it was impossible but then I got psyched. Maybe 6 attempts, it's only really 1 move off a slopey layback hold, holding the barn door as you scream
V4 | ★★ Dracula's scapula - with carol lee | 6m | Upper Gara Gorge | ★★ Very Good | Sun 13th Aug 2017
Took a bunch of attempts. Desperate feet, opposing gastons, and the top isn't trivial once you get there. Would be significantly easier if you had 3 more inches of ape than I do
V4 | ★★★ Sloper - with Ben Vincent | 3m | Bakers Creek | ★★★ Mega Classic | Sun 27th May 2018
First try got to jug around the corner totally pumped. Second go with some inelegant mantle action
V4 | ★★★ The middle stroke - with Andrew Woolley, James Graham-Higgs | 5m | Kwiamble National Park | ★★★ Classic | Sun 5th Aug 2018
Messed up the start but got it second go. Very marginal friction and kinda trying to pry open the welded seam to get anything out of it
V4 | ★★★ Lower jaw - with Andrew Woolley, James Graham-Higgs | 4m | Kwiamble National Park | ★★★ Classic | Sun 5th Aug 2018
Tried this quite a lot gradually chipping away at it, starting left on the really low crimp for balance. But turned out matching and just a big dyno sorted it much quicker
V4 | ★★ Bell tower - with Andrew Woolley, carol lee, Phil, Sarah Tremont | 4m | Upper Gara Gorge | ★★ Very Good | Mon 4th Nov 2019
I wasn't sure what to make of this originally, but once the pine needles were cleared this produced a gem but not up the line I was expecting. Very delicate and barn doorey and reachy. Took around a dozen attempts and coming back to it between other stuff
V4 | ★★★ Gushing over | 3m | Upper Gara Gorge | ★★★ Classic | Sun 3rd May 2020
Wow this thing was a great fight and I nearly moved on a couple times. Ben and Benji did it different which worked with their ape way out left, I found a better sequence for me which is more direct into the saddle off a tenuous sloper and then into slosh, and then stuffed my feet up and fell. Then much chalking and drying later and another couple attempts finally nailed it. Super happy with this send
V4 | ★ Powers Cream - with Benji Dutaillis | 1m | Upper Gara Gorge | ★ Good | Sun 27th Jun 2021
This is borderline not worth a write up, but its also the obvious finish to a mega hard problem which starts on the rails and goes directly up the arete. My guess V8-V10
V4 | ★★ Avoid the Ivermectin - with Benji Dutaillis | 3m | Upper Gara Gorge | ★★ Very Good | Sat 4th Sep 2021
This was quite a fight, super pleased to get this after a few completely meh lockdown weeks with almost no training of any description
V4 | ★★ Red licorice - with carol lee | 3m | Upper Gara Gorge | ★★ Very Good | Mon 4th Oct 2021
I first tried this 11 years ago! We intended to just have a look at this and then chase some underground shade at FC, but then we thrashed ourselves for 4 hours straight, maybe 20 attempts? I was done numerous times: left hand was swollen from the jam and right tips were shredded, but psyche kept regrowing. In the end some new subtle beta eliminated the jam altogether. Super stoked and quite unexpected. Now it just needs a proper start on the underclings, the two moves into where I started will likely bump it up to around V6-7
23 | ★★★ Secret life of goats - with Ben Vincent | 10m | Beulah | ★★ Very Good | Sun 4th Apr 2021
Got it 3rd attempt, really burly good fun. Felt a bit vomity for a while after
Psyched myself up and did the 3m jump across the canyon to get off instead of the cave |
V4 V3 | ★★ Gravitational lock | 2m | Upper Gara Gorge | ★★ Very Good | Sun 3rd May 2020
Got on this on a whim not expecting much while dragging a pad and to my surprise got it second go. Which then trigger the silliness to the left
V5 | ★★★ Shawarma - with Finn, Noah Craven | 3m | Upper Gara Gorge | ★★★ Classic | Fri 21st Jul 2023
V4 | ★★ Lost world - with Alec Eastwood, Callum Mather, Dany Chanda | 2m | Mt Yarrowyck | Fri 9th Dec 2022
Tricky feet, and then once you really get the undercling at the right angle its all good
V4 | ★★ Tufa fatu - with Ben Vincent, Alan Ezzy, Thor, Phil | 3m | Upper Gara Gorge | ★★★ Classic | Thu 6th Dec 2018
V4 | ★★★ Tactical vomit - with Volodymyr K | 7m | Upper Gara Gorge | ★★★ Classic | Wed 24th Apr 2024
Stoked Volo got this for the 3rd ascent. Almost day flashed it, but ripped off the sweet crux undercling and was gutted. But turned out its still quite doable without it, maybe slightly harder but same grade. Got it 3rd go.
V4 V6 | ★★ Bongo In The Congo - with Ben Vincent, Iliane Beuke | 5m | Oatlands | Average | Tue 10th Feb 2015
I still can't nail the end move but had the best attempt so far, just nipped the jugs and swung off
V4 V6 | ★★★ The crack SDS (The crack SDS project) - with Ben Vincent, Benji Dutaillis, Denni Heywood, Adhna | 4m | Upper Gara Gorge | ★★ Very Good | Sun 23rd May 2021
Siege of different tactics, this time trending more into invert offwidth and away from the brute force layback
V4 | ★★ Bowyang - with Ben Vincent | 15m | Arapiles | Sun 11th Aug 2019
V4 | ★★ Crack of Doom | 6m | Handsome Crag | ★★ Very Good | Sun 20th Jul 2014
Surprised myself by getting up the crack section fairly easily, but wussed out cause it gets high pretty quick
V4 | ★★ V3/4 SDS | 6m | Handsome Crag | ★★ Very Good | Sat 12th Jul 2014
Cold fingers at end of day didn't like the last sloper
V4 | ★★★ Setting Sun | 4m | Handsome Crag | Sat 12th Jul 2014
V4 | ★★ Long traverse - with tommykrauss | 10m | North West Bay River | ★★ Very Good | Sun 15th Sep 2013
Have done every move, just an stamina game from here.
V4 | Low traverse | 4m | Handsome Crag | Sun 20th Jul 2014
So so close, had a bunch of attempts and got pretty ragged. Crux is the wide span on crummy feet
V4 | ★★ Sloper rail - with Alan Ezzy | 1m | Upper Gara Gorge | ★ Good | Mon 21st Sep 2015
My Achilles heel almost literally. I need to get shoes that actually fit and learn to use them.
V4 | ★ A cult following - with Ben Vincent, Alan Ezzy | 3m | Upper Gara Gorge | Sat 16th Jan 2016
I have shown them the way. Ben Vincent and Alan Ezzy despite their initial reluctance have been converted and now see the magnificence of this variant for what it is.
V4 | ★★★ Sisqo (Flip Flop) (Sisqo) - with Ben Vincent | 5m | Upper Gara Gorge | ★★★ Classic | Sun 1st Sep 2019
Was mega excited to finally try this at low water. Had a few goes at this but just could not hold the sloper layback. Need more energy!
V4 | ★★ Ashley Madison crack (V roof) - with Carol Lee, Alan Ezzy | 5m | Upper Gara Gorge | ★★ Very Good | Sat 21st May 2016
Up layback then stretch out to finger lock, cut sick then powerful move slow down the barn door. Finally held the move but munted my finger, need to tape up next session
V4 | ★★ Max friction - with Alan Ezzy, Carol Lee | 2m | Upper Gara Gorge | ★★ Very Good | Sun 26th Jun 2016
Cool - but not quite there. Can't hold the thin crimp the way Alan did it. Maybe another day I can match on the good crimp
V4 | ★ Undercling underling - with Ben Vincent, Vaschka Koboroff | 3m | Mt Yarrowyck | Wed 29th May 2019
Didn't try the sit start, pulled on standing and got onto the slab and should have finished it but jumped off
V4 | ★ Right side of history - with Thor, Benji Dutaillis | 3m | Upper Gara Gorge | Thu 30th Jan 2020
Using the pinch and then a right heel rook almost works for me. The right slap is very marginal.
V4 | ★ Benji's wall - with Benji Dutaillis | 4m | Upper Gara Gorge | ★ Good | Sun 28th Jun 2020
Off balance with marginal knee scums to hold you in. A bit of ape helps
V4 | ★★ Christmas Custard - with Ben Vincent, Benji Dutaillis | 5m | Upper Gara Gorge | ★★ Very Good | Thu 31st Dec 2020
Had a few goes and with Benji's beta I can statically press through the crux but come up literally millimetres short of the jug finish! Moving my right hand in further puts me off balance. I'm probably going to need to stem my right foot out. It's a fairly big fall
V4 | ★★ Tumble Jumble (Cave problem) - with Ben Vincent, Volodymyr K | 3m | Upper Gara Gorge | ★★ Very Good | Tue 15th Feb 2022
It was dark and I thought I was already done but the psyche was high and the single shared headlight kept us going. I mostly did the very torquey crux moves through the roof a few times and fell off chopping the hand jam in on the right. Somewhat contrived but a really awesome cave roof problem.
V4 V2 | ★★ The Cauldron | 3m | Cedar Creek | Mon 10th Dec 2012
Baby ass smooth. Need to come back with more pads, spotters or balls.
V4 | ★★ Meerkat Madness | 5m | Beulah | Sat 26th Mar 2016
Was just pulling on, looked down at my left shoe and realised that the tiny hole I'd seen earlier in the day was now an inch wide. Time for new shoes, and a cider
V4 V3 | ★★ Two finger lock | 2m | Cedar Creek | Sun 20th Jan 2013
Too hot and bothered. It's one big move but a bit dirty. Needs some love with a brush.
V4 | ★ Left crack | 3m | Cedar Creek | Mon 10th Dec 2012
V4 | ★ Slimpy - with Ben Vincent, Alan Ezzy, Dr Phil, carol lee | 3m | Mt Yarrowyck | Average | Thu 28th Feb 2019
Had a couple goes, the coarseness was not inspiring
V4 | ★★ The golden dawn - with Andrew Woolley, James Graham-Higgs | 5m | Kwiamble National Park | ★★ Very Good | Sun 5th Aug 2018
Oh man, too too much of a good thing. I was getting spent 10 or 15 problems ago and was just like a kid at the show. I had one attempt at this and was just so keen to put it together but I finally shut down. Possibly the most sends in a day ever! So much froth, and we didn't even get to the crack cave or to a bunch of stuff at slippery rocks that we scouted in the morning. Always gotta leave something for next time
V4 | ★★ A flash of commitment - with Ben Vincent, Michael Moore, Volodymyr K, Clive | 3m | Upper Gara Gorge | ★★ Very Good | Sat 7th May 2022
The water was so high it was more difficult just to get here, only to confirm it was mostly underwater. Volo half jokingly suggested we try the end, and then took off his shirt and did an extremely committing traverse on slopers over the water in his approach shoes. I tried it a couple times and couldn't even do the first move and was totally wigged out. Now that this traverse has been unlocked it is the obvious link up finish to what will be a true king line when finally done (probably next drought)
