The initial crack was reasonably clean. Wasn’t worried about the massive apparently detached flake you bridge up after that but did not like the dirty lose gully to the right above it. Chose to walk off the back rather than trust the shackles on the weathered handrail rope for an abseil.

Surprised to see here that I seconded this 2 years ago. I have no memory of that. Climb was very dirty vegetated and lichen covered. Lots of holds if you can uncover them, Also some loose rock. Some good moves. Could be good if it was cleaned up.

So...I actually got lost on this route. Apparently I'm not the only person to ever do so which kind of makes me feel slightly better. I clipped the first 3 or four bolts on a rising traverse and went around the corner (out of sound and sight of belayer) and found myself on a grassy ledge in front of a featured wall. In my mind I imagined that the rising traverse continued so continued up the featured wall looking for the next bolt - up and up and up. Free solo not being my forte it was rather scary for me. I slung a pathetic looking bush continued further up into mossy terrain then very carefully down climbed. I now understand from the guidebook and feedback from Queenstown Climbing Club Facebook Group that I should have walked along the grassy ledge. I presume the next bolt is hidden in the greenery somewhere. There is no fixed hardware anywhere up where I climbed in error. I left a couple of nice slings and biners around a bush up there if anyone is keen for booty.

Climbed on beautiful still evening avoiding heat of the day. Ran p1 and p2 together. Lots of sloper holds all the way. After last bolt on P2 I was wondering if I should be heading left to line of bolts there or straight up to bolt a long way above but climbed up a bit and managed to sight hand traverse line and anchor up and to right. We belayed across the rope traverse otherwise you are depending entirely on the rope. Pitch 3 a bit easier. P4 a bit steeper but great holds.

First of all, finding the Welcome Wall was not the bush bash slog that I imagined but rather a straightforward path and not too far. I could not do the finger crack layback move on p1 and had to pull on the draw to get through. P3 roof was intimidating and awesome. P4 had lots of great moves only wish I wasn’t so nervous about loose rock. Thanks to the route setters and cleaners for a massive amount of work.
