Ascents by Tom Bes having Distinct route

This would be terrifying without my ridiculously big gear. my #5, #6 and #7 (merlin #8) were vital on pitches 3 and 4. also the belay of pitch 1. being able to bump the big cams up the wide roofs and laybacks was a dream.

I really enjoyed leading the 1st pitch, especially the slabbyness after the offwidthy chimney stuff. Spent both pitches in regret for not reading the route description before hand, and leaving the #5, #6 and #7 cams in the car. Would of been great to have. Can go without though just about. Some big hexes helped. I think the guidebooks 2 stars is more fitting.

So much good gear. More pieces than bolts on most climbs here. Great fun. Grade 16 Trad routes are probably my favourite thing to climb.

Chimney variant cause the direct thin hands crack roof is haaaarrrd. Thin start, finger lock central with average feet. Chimney take gear in the back of it on the freestanding block that is attached at the bottom. Thanks to dyno Jake who got very cold on the patient belay.

Good short Trad climb. Small cams in the middle and some big ones for the anchor at the top. Topout is a bit exciting.

Fun. Runout. Tiny ACT gear. The move into the crack in the last pitch was too scary so I got Jake to lead it. It wasn't as bad as I thought when I seconded. Good ACT slab timez

This is the younger sibling of Telstar. Every move of the Second pitch is amazing and pretty unique. Slabby offwidth you can bump a #6 all the way up, to cramped air walk with bomber jams to rebirthing yourself onto a ledge of joy. Rapped of the fixed sling after pitch 2. I even didn't mind the first pitch.

The finger crack at the start is the crux, beautiful chill climbing afterwards. There is now a cord sling between the carrots... It held for us.

Fun face climbing. Lots of funnelwebs though.

a nice direct line

not many offwidth moves on this in the end. a few squeeze chimney bits. Quite a few of the bolts are right next to some bomber regular sized cam placements but i still clipped 2 i think? i marked this good as it felt mean to call it average. i would describe it as 'sufficient'.

I had a great time on this. I was surprised to find it actually felt like a 16 to me instead of 2-3 grades harder I have come to expect from act granite.

Almost easier than the 14s to the right. Hard start but then fairly juggy
