Description

Great boulders in a nice location, close to town with a good variety of problems for the beginner/intermediate crusher. Located in the harbour, so is nicely sheltered and is certainly one of the more reliable areas during winter. Technical faces, steep jugging and some good short jam cracks. Two pads are the go as some of the problems are fairly high.

Approach

Point King Lighthouse Ruins can be reached a few different ways. Either go along Princess Royal Drive, through the port and park where the scenic walk that goes to Middleton Beach starts. After about ten minutes there will be a sign on your right and another track that leads down to the ruins. All the routes are left (East) of the ruins. Alternatively, from town head along Marine Drive, passing Forts Road and park on the South side of the road opposite the hikers crossing. Go through the gate, walk down the road, take the track on the right that leads to the antenna and onto the scenic walk.

History

Historically this place is undeniably historic and steeped in history. Without a doubt, previous lighthouse keepers and John Reddin’s eight kids would have ticked all these routes 100 years ago. Have fun!
