A series of crags east of Simpsons Gap with beautiful valley views.

There are many cliff faces to be explored along this Ridgeline. According to the guidebook, Rock Climbing in Central Australia there are a few well developed crags with quality routes within a 30-60 minute hike of the car park. Note: Many of the climbs here have grades sandbagged somewhat. If you are ground-up leading; might be best to add 1-2 grades to each climb.

Access issues

The gap and the immediate surrounding cliff/scree areas are of great conservation value and as such must not be climbed. Many curious rock wallabies can be spotted watching visitors from the labyrinth of large scree boulders on the east face of the gap. Rangers keep a keen eye on visitors and happily explain the conservation value of this area. Climbing is strictly for areas east of the gap.

Simpsons gap is 20min drive West of Alice springs. Head West on Larapinta Drive for 15minutes and take a right on Darken Dr.

Most of the central australian crags are trad style. Simpsons gap area is completely trad and so it's best to follow the trend. Keep the NT wild - don't bolt it.
