Le Grand Dièdre

  • Grade context: US
  • Ascents: 21
  • Aka: Directissime

A very popular sector, le Grand dièdre contains a great concentration of easy to medium multi-pitchs climbs. This all Trad area is well exposed, giving a wonderful aerial feeling once you're out of the forest (1st pitch). Although most of the rock is sound, their are several weak flakes here and there. Be careful when placing gear!

From le Planetarium sector, take the trail that starts from the last route on the right and walk it to the top. You can access the base of the climbs in a similar (but longer) way from le Rocher école; take the trail that goes up from the last route at the left of the sector. Beware the approach; due to the easy access and beautiful view at the top of mont Pinacle, many people have their lunch there... and trow away stuff directly in the approach trail. Thus, you will find broken glass there, and you might need your hand for the climb. Have your eyes open! Also, don't follow people too close, for the steep angle and the abundance of loose rocks might catch you off guards.

Descent notes

Use the trail at the top to descent from the climb. Climb the small boulders behind the end of the routes and follow the signs. You can also rappel down, but note that many routes end at the same point in this sector, and that you might be in conflict with other teams by doing so. An easy way to do it would be to would be to go in the very corner of the sector the the route called Gringalet and rappel from there (few to no frequentation in the summer, more of a mix climb than a rock one). Two 60m rappels will bring you back to the start of the climbs.
