Summary

Great Limestone and Quartzite Crags

Description

A very picturesque beach and hillside setting with some routes around the stunningly positioned Panagia Katefiani chapel

Access issues

Access is open all year with one crag on the waterfront of the Northern end of Perissa beach, and the other around the Panagia Katefiani chapel

Approach

The beachside crag is a 1 minute walk from the carpark at the Northern end of Perissa beach. The chapel crag is accessed by an incredibly scenic 15 minute walk from the start of the walk up to Ancient Thira on the headland above.

Where to stay

Various hotels and hostels in Perissa, or stay in the main town of Thira, hire a scooter or quadbike, and drive 20 mins to Perissa

Ethic

Many bolted routes. The locals encourage climbing visitors as a source of tourist income and have no objection to trad climbing

Grade Route

Sling the boulder at the top of the bluff (being careful to protect the rope from the razor-sharp limestone). Rap down to where the bluff meets the path to the chapel and climb up using ascender or prussic. Move right to avoid the little cave at the bottom. Has a couple of 6a moves

The bluff is where the path to Ancient Thira splits to go to the chapel on the right. Sling the boulder at the top of the bluff (being very careful to protect the rope from the razor-sharp limestone). Rap down and climb up using an ascender or prussick loops. Some 5c+ moves
