Description

Nice boulder with a good landing, if a bit in the middle of nowhere.

Access issues inherited from Lukenya

Lukenya is owned by the Mountain Club of Kenya and entrance is free for members. Non-members have to pay for a daily membership (KES400 for Kenyan citizens, KES800 for others, payable by Mpesa paybill no 880926. Account: guest fee). No commercial groups are allowed. Some climbs are occasionally off-limits when eagles are nesting (in particular Eagles Nest Face). If this is the case its normally communicated on a notice in the sign-on book at the gate and through a climber whatsapp group.

Approach

Park near the house with a concrete boat watertower (?) and follow good tracks to the pin and boulder, on your left through a bush.

Ethic inherited from Lukenya

Lukenya is mostly trad. No bolting is allowed without a special permission from the Mountain Club of Kenya.

Grade Route

Straight up the middle of the boulder, using a tiny sharp left-hand crimp on the face. If you are 11, very light and very strong like the first ascentionist, you can match on this and use a tiny crack side-pull. If you are not, get your feet up and throw to a good hold at the top - very hard!

FA: Livio van den Enckevort, 2020

Same as Finger-Tingler, but adding in a sit-start from the lowest crack.

FA: Joel M, 2020

Start, low, up to the triangular hold on the face, then up to the right to a good diagonal crimp. Can be done the fun way with a big dyno, or the lame static way with wide feet. Up good holds to the left to finish.

FA: IanT, 2020

Same finish as for Sura Yako, but starts crouched on the right and works left.

FA: Sven van den Enckevort, 2020

Up the featured rock on the right of the boulder. High but good holds and feet all the way.

FA: Joel M, 2020
