Description

High ball boudering & some sport climbing amongst epic ocean beaten greywacke. Considered as one of the birthplaces of bouldering in NZ. Expect stiff, intimidating but rewarding climbs in a unique setting.

Approach

Two options depending on your adventure level!

  1. ~90 minute bike ride from Eastbourne village (highly wind dependent). (i) Cycle along the coast, passing the pencarrow lighthouse (ii) pass the "private property sign" (iii) the dirt road will split - take the right road (which will eventually turn to sand - open and close the gate) and continue along the coast line until you reach the crag. The first rock you will approach is Ship Rock (handful of sport climbs). Continue South for 5 minutes and you will approach the main boulders.

  2. By car drive to Wainuiomata and follow the main road south until you reach the Coast Road. Park at the carpark and walk towards the promient boulders along the beach.
