Routes in Free State for selected grade

Right of Jump Up. Climb up slightly rightward to the right hand anchors.

Starts just left of the fence on the eastern side of the boulder. Climb up and then traverse left and down again.

There are various fun and easy problems on the south side of the boulder climbing the well featured face.

Start sitting with both hands on a big ledge and top out.

Stand start to COW CORNER.

Stand start on a platform with an undercling, top out and don't fall!

Straight up the middle of the scooped wall, top out.

This climb is around on the Northern side of the Boulder and starts 3m right of the start of Bogey. Start up a grey slab for 5m to a ledge, then pull through the steep rock above on good jugs to move left onto the arête as soon as you are establishes on the face above. Continue up the arête to the chains of Bogey. This climb shares the last 2 bolts with Starlings.

Climbs the side closest to the main mountain. Pull on some fun pockets to the top.

Start just right of bush, up to large elliptical pocket and then up rightwards to chains.

1. 40m (18) 13D. This pitch ends on a large ledge below the overhanging Red Wall. One-bolt belay.

2. 25m (20) 15D. Climb back and clip the last bolt of the previous pitch and continue up.

3. 25m (11) 6D. This pitch takes you to the top.

Abseil back down the route. From the anchors at the top of pitch 2, abseil over the edge and onto the ledge below the Red Wall. The final abseil bolts are located on the clean rock face adjacent to the extreme right-hand side of the ledge. After the final abseil scramble down an easy gully to reach the base of the crag. Tie a knot in the end of your rope - this pitch is almost 35m long.

Start to the right of the previous route and climb up just left of a sort of rounded arête.

This route takes the line of bolts to the right of the previous route. Start just to the right of the line of bolts and move up diagonally left, then continue straight up the bolt-line to the anchors - tricky.

Climb the line of bolts up the middle of the downhill face.

Start towards the left-hand side of the north face, about 2m to the left of the central black streak . Climb up diagonally left towards the arête. After the second bolt, either pull through rightwards immediately, or go up left to clip the next bolt before going through the small bulge. Continue to the top. Apparently the climbing is much easier if you traverse out to the arête and climb this, however, you will then find it hard to clip the bolts.

Small pile of rocks often found at the bottom for those short on height or ethics. Awkward start. This route was originally graded 18, but the breaking off of a number of holds has made the start considerably harder if you follow the original intention not to use the steps or other “aids” for the start.

Climbs more or less straight up, through the break halfway up the face, to make a nice long route.

Towards the right end of the boulder wall when standing in the little "passage" and facing the boulder. Climb up to the overhang and then up the right of the arete.

3m right of up your kloof

Start to the left of the abseil cave. Jump to start, careful with the rock on the first part. From the ledge, run then jump and hope for the best. Enjoy beautiful rock to the top. Don't be a chicken.
