Description

Situated near the village of Gestalgar and below iconic Peña Maria there are a number of nice crags.

With kids

The area around Peña María is a paradise for families. The approach is super short - except for July and August (see Access Issues). Sectors Peña María and Ruinas have a very comfortable base, lots of trees and shade. Various opportunities to jump into the water keep the kids entertained.

Access issues

In July and August the parking under Peña Maria is not open for vehicles. You have to park 400m earlier on a bridge next to Fuente El Morinello.

Camping is not allowed.

Local Guidebook

You can support development and re-bolting of the area by buying the local guidebook (15€) from Club de deportes de montaña y escalada Peña María Gestalgar. It is for sale in bars in the nearby village of Gestalgar. Errors in the guidebook have been corrected here on theCrag to the best of our knowledge.

Approach

At the roundabout at the entrance of the village of Gestalgar, take CV-379 towards Chiva. After approx. 800m turn right into a dirt road with signs for Fuente Peña Maria (39.600902, -0.827140). Follow this dirt road another 2.6km where you can park next to Fuente El Morinello (39.598151, -0.848646). Depending on the season you can take the right-hand track until another parking right under Peña Maria (39.600446, -0.853640).

From here you have access to all sectors except Fontaineprau (see respective sector for approach).
