Description

Climbs on and around the two main summit bluffs.

Access issues inherited from Castle Rock

Located within the Toiyabe National Forest.

Approach

From the "Castle Gates", continue following the main trail as it heads around to the right and skirts the northern side of the summit bluffs. After 5 minutes or so you'll reach the obvious access gully, which leads to the summit of the 2nd tallest (western) bluff. It's well worth scrambling up to the top of this bluff, since the views are spectacular.

The summit of the highest bluff can be reached via 'Summit Access', or 'Rapunzel's Hair'.

Descent notes

Either downclimb (down lead?) the 'Summit Access', or lower off or rappel using the anchors on Rapunzel's Hair (better, but may be tricky to rig from above).

Grade Route

The sport route on the good looking face left of (just before) the access gully. Crux bulges to start, then a very pleasant featured slab (slightly flakey & friable) to a double cold-shut lower off.

The "recommended" route for tourists to gain the top of the tallest pinnacle. Not recommended at all without rope & big gear!
