Did you know?

Did you know that you can create an account to record, track and share your climbing ascents? Thousands of climbers are already doing this.

Bird Rock makes for a fun little side destination if you are in the area of Sheep Nose, Turkey Rocks, or Thunder Ridge and have the time to check it out. Though not as chock full of quality climbing as it's major destination neighbors, it offers some good routes on good rock.

From the Abbey Road turn-off into the town of Westcreek (14.1 miles north of Woodland Park on CO-67), drive 0.2 miles to a T-intersection and take a left. In 0.5 miles, take a right hand turn to head west on Stump Road. Stay on Stump for 2.0 miles past Sheep Nose and take the next right onto Nine-J Road. Follow Nine-J for approximately 3 miles, at which point the forested area ends and you find yourself in the Hayman Burn area. Pull into the first pullout you see and you'll be at the parking area for Bird Rock, which is the large granite dome visible to the east. From here, the approach is a cross-country jaunt down into the Fourmile Creek drainage and up the hill to the base of the West Side of Bird Rock.

Where to stay

Camping in the area is ONLY permitted within the first 3 miles of Nine-J Road as driven from the intersection with Stump Road. Camp only within designated areas.
