Ascents of Flight of the Bumble Bee having Beta

“Some argue these last moves are 7c” - count me amongst them. Remains listed at 7c in the 2023 guidebook, and goes as hard as most 5.12d / 7c that I’ve climbed. The boulder sequence on twin open pinches demands finessed footwork, not to mention grip strength. Shifting a sloper pinch into a tense three finger drag for extra reach felt pretty gnarly. My beta also resulted in one final, brutal set of moves to get over the ledge. Right hand ring finger split deep and bled profusely, but I managed to redpoint with a taped tip. I would never have worked this route had I not gotten onto it by accident, intending to put up the 6b beside it.

Was going to see how my back went with some lead falls but started to seize up after the first lap. So of course I did 4 more laps to make sure.... two days later I could turn my neck again.... just.... so that’s a no, not ready yet...

My theory was, if I could do laps on this and not have my back seize up tomorrow, I was going to start projecting again. Sounded good in theory... x5 laps

As the warm up went so well, thought I'd see how I was on something a bit harder. Floated up the thing! No pump, not even puffing. How much weight did I lose??? Didn't lead. I was pretty sick and didn't want to over tax the heart but this is a good sign. Stopping now though...

Warm up. Slippery today.

Lowered off Argentina and got straight on this from the ledge. Fell off the last hold. Not bad as a warm up combo!

The hard part are the last two meters on badass pinches. Kind of fun.

one move! got to last hold before the dyno/crappy hold. will come back to this once I've recovered from the flu...maybe..

Only got on this one once before we had to leave -- look forward to trying again. Sorted out the upper beta: tricky and very bouldery, very fun.
