approach beta

Hey, just wanting to get some beta on getting to the base of the tote. How long is the static line you need for the rap/tyrolean traverse? thanks

Mark Rewi replied 7 years ago.

Hey Ben, we used a 60m dynamic which worked well and pretty sure we had some spare. One of the absolute best.... enjoy!

Hey Ben,

There is a double ring bolt anchor on the mainland and we rapped on grigris to the base on a single 60m rope and trailed this to the top for the tyrolean. The rap is probably about 50m but take a 60m to be safe.

At the base there is a big ledge on the mainland side. You will need to swing from this ledge to the belay bolts (fixed hangers from memory) at the base of the totem pole. I found it easiest to sit with my back facing the totem pole and push off with my legs and then try to clip the bolt on the totem pole with a sling.
