A short vertical face on the east side of the Barron Gorge, opposite to the power station. Literally parallel with the angle of the power station wall. It is located approx. 200m upstream of the power station bridge in the Barron Gorge. The rock itself is likely black shale.
Nice climbing. Due to some loose rock and the traversing nature of some climbs (providing swing potential) it is recommended to climb and belay with helmets.
Be wary at any coastal or riverside crags for the potential of crocodiles and if you're in the water marine stingers.
Drive to the end of the Barron Gorge Rd and park at the carpark before the power station bridge (-16.852043, 145.648963). Walk back down the Rd for about 100m and head down the access trail/rd to the river.
Head upstream on the NE side of the gorge (opposite side to the power station) with a single easy downclimb required when the tier runs out (you'll be walking through trees here beforehand), and then some minor scrambling to get to the wall. As of early 2023 a small rocky landslide has occurred about 100m downstream of the wall on the NE side of the gorge, but thankfully it is passable.
Alternatively walk in the middle of the gorge until you are roughly 200m upstream of the bridge (only accessible when not flooded). The wall will emerge on your right. This approach requires an ankle deep walk through the water right by the wall for about 6m.
Brush holds, respect veg, wildlife, and the rock as much as possible. Take all that goes with you back out of the gorge inc. fruit scraps. Please also take any rubbish you find.
Did you know that you can create an account to record, track and share your climbing ascents? Thousands of climbers are already doing this.
