After some rope shenanigans we were off. The wind picked up a rogue wave, leaving me head to toe soaked, I took a mouth full of water while belaying. Got Kai to go in hard so I could pull up to the 3rd hanger which was loose, I could spin the nut holding it to the rock. Aided up to the ledge to try to warm up.

Didn't bring a clip stick but did have a normal stick which has become my favourite stick ever may it rest in peace in the ocean. But ye waves drenched us at the bottom belay station and the stick wasn't long enough to get the second and I couldn't climb the wet rock. Went back up the rap line and got a siq jump clip of the second bolt in three shots (thank fuck). Basicly stick clipped up the rest of the draws.

The trad bit at the end was pretty spooky, especially seeing I was very wet but luckily it went. Was more run out to the trad placements then expected. Placed a blue and yellow totem cam in the first crack I could find then went to the top.

Tldr connies probably weren't onnies also bring a clip stick if Ur bad

Intimidating, particularly when the rock is wet the first 1/3 of the route and the wind is howling. Luckily the rock is sticky. Great moves. Beta: take extra long whilst climbing it so your belayer can get a solid thrashing by the waves.

Second attempt, much lower swell (0.6m), didn't even get wet feet, rock was in perfect condition, and the climbing was stellar. Got quite pumped and had to work out the beta a little, but enjoyed and savoured the climbing and the location. The second pitch might be the money pitch, but this line is great in its own right. Pulling onto the belay ledge felt amazing - a dream adventure climb. Would recommend belaying from the ledge on the mainland, easier to manage the rope, and less risk of getting wet.

First attempt at doing the Tote, not a good day for it as it turned out to be drizzling, but it really got bad when the swell got big and absolutely slammed me on the belay. Waves crashing above my head, soaking every part of me, 1/3 of the pitch, and all of my gear, including the rope, made us wisely reconsider our choice for the day.. we bailed, swung back across and jumared out to try our luck on a better day. Great adventure experience but I wouldn't do it again in swell over about 1m I think.

Raging waters on the tote today supper awesome climbing.

Regarding the missing hanger I have added a bolt plate and a tightened nut. This is a temporary fix

If the next people on the tote bring a 10mm hanger and nut to swap it out that would be great!

Mitch chucked on a bolt bracket and a new nut on the last hanger. Not a complete fix but makes it slightly safer until it can be properly fixed 🤙

Great route! Happy with an onsight although felt like it could be more on the 22/23 side, or I just read it well. Swing across with the rap rope was quite straight forward too and got it first go. Low tide meant everyone stayed dry. Small green WC #2 nut right off the belay was solid and backed up by a 0.2 cam. Several hangers then optional 0.5/0.75 cam at easy section to top.

Watched Harry absolutely cruise up this for the onsight which was insanely awesome and then did it pretty easily when my turn came, despite being absolutely smashed by a huge wave as I swung across. Belayed from the mainland which was great too and meant I stayed mainly dry until I started to climb. Mostly very well bolted but an #0.5 camalot straight off the belay is super useful so you don't land in the ocean and then a medium (BD #6) nut and a #0.4 camalot up high on the easy climbing. An amazing pitch all up but it would probably be 22 at Piddo

Unbelievable adventure! Was pretty intimidated rapping in and swinging across (which I nailed second shot) luckily nothing was too wet until just as I was setting off and a very big wave came and drenched everything. A 0.5 cam off the belay is key to not splashing into the raging sea below. So stoked on the onsight!!!!

Very exciting first pitch of the Tote. Caleb belayed from the first bolt on the mainland side of the pillar and got pretty wet while I dogged my way up this tough pitch, taking a couple decent whippers early on, swinging just above the waves! Peaking! The start looked hard, runout and spoogy, but the climbing was actually reasonable to the first two bolts (right next to eah other for some reason). Used a #0.5 cam soon after at a cruxy section. The remainder is good and dry but still very delicate and pumpy!

Amazing first pitch! What an adventure... So stoked to get it clean I think I would struggled to find my way on lead but seconding was a challenge in itself just from being freezing cold and wet from the waves crashing at my feet on the hanging belay. We made it a lot more pleasant by lowering the end of the rope after Simon led so he could pull up the abseil rope and our extra gear to the belay ledge before I climbed (if you're climbing on a 70 m rope you can do this on the second pitch as well). The climbing itself was great, definitely a few tricky and delicate moves but there are good rests along the way. As for the hanging belay, be really mindful of how you flake the rope as it can get caught in the kelp below if you let it hang down too low.
