Plenty of good cracklines to follow here, on good, solid Rhyolite.

An entire crag awaiting further development.

The closest crag at Maroon to the carpark. Opposite Viewpoint & quite a bit lower down. This crag sits below Nympho Buttress.

Access issues

Access is across private land, as far as the main slope - please respect private property & any livestock that might be grazing. No pets, no cairns or tape to mark the way please. The National Park boundary is about where the main slope up to the crag begins.

The most direct access: walk up the hiker's track till you arrive at the treeline, keep walking for another 200m until you see the first National Parks sign:

Look back about 20-30m & you'll see a faint track heading off Right.

Follow this trail down to the gully & up the steep slope opposite, following a few cairns till you arrive at the rocky outcrop which is Heartcramp.

Following this route: the NP boundary is about where the track meets the gully.

Ethic inherited from Mt Maroon

Sport bolting is a big no-no here. If you place a bolt here, you'd better have a damn good reason, even then, expect it to be chopped.

History timeline chart

First developed by Rick & Chris in September 1968: one of the very first routes to be established on Maroon. Named by Rick after a fellow BRC member bragged about establishing a very hard route at Maroon. When Rick insisted he show him the route, he suddenly developed a "heartcramp" on the walk in & had to retreat hastily.

A thin crackline up through a small cave. Up in the corner, delicate to shelf, up to the small cave, then out left & thin wall to finish.
