Summary

the Höllkogel is the highest summit in this area and the Höllengebirge is named after it. while it is easy to get there from the north (hiking trail) the south face is a steep highly alpine area.

Description

the south face of the Höllkogel and its surrounding peaks is a very remote, less known and very alpine area. steep vertical walls, big canyons, and many caves. nearly no ascents. it is a minimum 2h hike to get there.

Access issues

go to the "weissenbachsattel" between attersee and traunsee and park at "maria in der klamm"

Approach

follow the weissenbach until you reach the kessel "in der höll". on the right side the big hell canyon (III) leads to the southface.

Where to stay

camping in ebensee would be an idea

Ethic

this is a very alpine area. we tried to do as much as possiblile traditional style. bolts where only set where the risk of going on without was to high. so there are nearly no there (hehe)

History

History timeline chart

aside from hunters and some selected madmen the wilderness of the höll was/is widley unknown. we started exploring the area in 2010. the FFA of the southface was made in march 2015 and we are still working on the sulzkogel southface.
