A majestic mountain that peaks at 2.222 meters, Dent d'Orlu has many long multipitch routes on its south, east and south-east faces. Care should be taken when planning a climb here: afternoon storms are a possibility in summer, and one should take into account the time required to approach the wall or to reach the peak and descend.
Some privately owned climbing areas may have restricted access. Check with https://www.ffme.fr/
To reach the South and South-East faces, drive from Ax towards Orlu and then Forges d'Orlu on the D22. Take the left turn after the hydro-power plant and just before reaching the Forges d'Orlu, then follow the narrow road for about 2 km. A restricted parking near a cattlegrid marks the approach for the Pilier Sud, 500 meters further a more extensive parking area is the start of the approach for the South-East face.
The East face is reached from Ax by taking the D613 and then the D25 until the campsite at La Forge, next to the lake. Turn into the entrance of the campsite and then follow the track along the lake and then into the hills. After 6 km from the camping you will find a roundabout/parking place. Take care as the track is quite rough. From the roundabout a path will take you to the East face in ~45 minutes.
Park where indicated, take care of the environment, buy the local guidebook when possible (this is one of the ways you can help local route setters), clean up your shoes before climbing, don't spray beta, be polite.
Did you know that you can create an account to record, track and share your climbing ascents? Thousands of climbers are already doing this.
