Summary

Beautiful cliffs with 250 routes between 15m and 35m.

Description

Topo : Escalades dans les massifs du Haut-Languedoc, FFME 34, 2016. 192 pages. 25€ (+8 autres sites).

Two main cliffs, one facing south for winter and one facing North for summer, set in a beautiful and natural area. Routes from 5a to 8a, most of them in the 6s ans 7s. The Gorges de la Cesse are also a great spot for hikes, swimming, hiding in the caves etc...

All climbing styles are represented here: slab, cracks, lots of overhangs, crimpy vertical walls, traverses, roofs. The routes can be technical and sustained ("conti" in French).

Access issues

Climbing is forbidden during hunting season (September-January). Hunting parties finish at 1PM. Fires are forbidden. Take care on top of the cliffs. Be extra careful of not disrupting wildlife such as bats in the caves (don't yell). Don't use the caves as toilets...

Approach

*From Beziers: D11 direction Capestang, Argeliers, Olonzac, Cesseras and Fauzan. *From Narbonne: D607 direction St Pons, Caunette, Minerve and Fauzan. *From Carcassonne: Direction St Pons, Trebes, Olonzac, Cessera and Fauzan.

Before getting to Fauzan, take a right on a dirt road. Follow this going North East until you reach a car park near the old mine abandoned buildings.

Walk 5-20min down a steep descent (cable and stairs). For the South face go down the stairs, go right on a trail which turns left after 50m toward the river (steep). Cross the river and take the track going to the cliff (right).

Where to stay

Camping du Maquis in Minerve or Gîte communal de Minerve. Check www.minervois-tourisme.fr.

Ethic inherited from France

Park where indicated, take care of the environment, buy the local guidebook when possible (this is one of the ways you can help local route setters), clean up your shoes before climbing, don't spray beta, be polite.

Check https://www.gouvernement.fr/en/coronavirus-covid-19 for COVID-19 restrictions currently in place.
