Super nice, historical and famous swiss crag with all climbing styles and really all levels available. Quiet landscape and easy access. What else ?!
A few hundreds of routes up to the 9th French grade. This is a long limestone cliff spreading along more than 1 km and facing south west. There are in facts 2 areas separated by 10 minutes of easy hiking; but people would usually talk about 3 to 4 main sectors, 2 in each of area. Short routes in "Le Chaney" (10 to 20m); much longer ones on the main cliff (40m). Equipment is excellent thanks to the contributions of local individuals and associations (CAS)
Several options to park in Pompaples, including the car park of the Hospital which will cost you a few CHF. It is also possible to have a quicker access to sectors "Le Chaney" by parking in a small parking lot along the road between Pompaples and Croy. By train, you shall alight at La Sarraz and walk towards Pompaples and then the main Cliff (about 25 min)
From Pompaples, less than 10 minutes walk to the main cliff, an additional 10 minutes to get to sector Le Chaney, including a less easy and steeper walk through the forest
Respect the place and its surroundings. Pay attention to wildlife. There are periods of the year where some sectors are "closed" in order to let nature do its magic. Make sure you respect the quietness of the hospital surroundings.
Did you know that you can create an account to record, track and share your climbing ascents? Thousands of climbers are already doing this.
