If you like to hike and climb by the sea, Ag.Ioannis is a nice choice and you can have the oportunity to swim in deep clear waters! An hour and a half from Heraklion.

Approach
From Heraklion head towards Moires, go past Agia Varvara, to Agioi Deka. In this village, don't miss the left-hand turn to Vaghionia which you go through to reach Loukia and then Kapetaniana, at which point the road become a track! A 8km track connecting to Ag.Ioanni, maybe tarmarcked or asphalt by now... haven't been there since 2010! The landscape is eye rewarding and vast! Park on the left, 300m after the chapel.
From the car par, head east with the sea to your right and follow the path which starts with some step, then cross a valey. Leaving the turning to Moni Koudouna to your left, head towards the cave-chapel Agios Antonis (same name as the cliff). 25min walk.
