Pulau Tioman

Tioman Island (Malay: Pulau Tioman) is a mukim and an island in Rompin District, Pahang, Malaysia. It is located 32 kilometres (20 miles) off the east coast of the state, and is some 21 kilometres (13 miles) long and 12 kilometres (7.5 miles) wide. It has seven villages, the largest and most populous being Kampung Tekek on the central western coast. The densely forested island is sparsely inhabited, and is surrounded by numerous coral reefs, making it a popular scuba diving, snorkelling, and surfing spot. There are many resorts and chalets for tourists around the island, which has duty-free status. Source Wikipedia

Dragon Horns

To get to the Dragon's Horns, either take the ferry from Mersing or Singapore (4 hours) to the Berjaya resort. From here hire a speedboat (1 hour, $50-75) or catch a fishing boat (slow but cheap) to the charming Kampung Mukut, located on the southern tip of the island. If you take catamaran from Mersing it took only 2-3 hours or speedboat 1 1/2 hours to Mukut.( fees from RM50-70 return) From here the Dragon's Horns tower above the village. Follow the shoreline to some huts on stilts, then take the established path up the hill. When this ends, cut left through dense brush until a ravine/riverbed is reached. Follow this up to the base of the wall, then skirt left up and along the base of the wall (steep jungle) until an obvious high point is reached. This is the start of Waking Dream.

Naga (Dragon) is an approximately 270m climb in 8 pitches on the South Tower.

The route has bolted anchors and bolts but is rather run-out especially on easier ground (making this an adventurous sport multipitch or mixed climb). A small set of cams from micros up to BD sizes 1 or 2 will help to mitigate that.

There are a couple of sections at the 6b/+ level but the majority of the climb is very accessible. Leaders should be experienced and comfortable at that grade.

Access to the climb is via the path up from Simukut Hiilview. A left turn at checkpoint #7 (following the "climbing point" sign) will take you to the base of the climb.

Descent can be done via the same way or down "Polish Princess". Please speak to Tam for more information on this.

More information and beta can be found in the logbook at Kampung Mukut. Please pay a visit to Tam and Uncle Sam at Simukut Hiilview!

Mystery Wall

A previously untouched and "unseen" pinnacle facing Tioman’s inland valley. Although the profile of the project is visible from the Dragon Horns South Tower, the main wall is surrounded by jungle that stretches out for kilometres and was a much debated mystery among visiting climbers, hence its name Mystery Wall.

Its just around the first point to the right of the arch as you come out to the beach. It runs off the pebbly beach up a crack going right. Rock is soft and loose but has passable protection for active pro. At the top of the crack traverse right to a big nosey flake to set up top rope anchor for the sea cliff face, which has a sustained ~6a route directly up to the nose.
