Description

Solid granite climbing requiring a mixture of crack, slab, overhang and friction techniques.

Normal 'leave-no-trace' ethics apply

Approach

From the National Park gate, drive west along road for 9.5 km, avoiding the left turn to Lake Monowai - just follow the power lines. Park at Pylon #89. Find creek on true right, then the indistinct trail marked with tape on the creeks true left. A couple of fixed ropes lead to a rock ridge and views of climbing walls. Approach should take less than 2 hours.

Where to stay

Lake Monowai is a free DOC campground. There is a bivy easily located beneath the climbing which provides some relief from the rain.
