A great moderate climb which can be done as a day trip from Huaraz.

Access issues

Part of the National Park so a National Park ticket will be required. in 2018 this cost 150 Soles for one month.

Approach

Take a taxi from Huaraz and head 5 minutes past the turn off for the popular tourist attraction which is Pastoruri glacier. You will find a National Park sign warning of the dangers of mountaineering - start here. Hike up and left for approximately 45 minutes on faint trails until you spy the main snow/ice ramp which indicates the start of the normal route.

The taxi will wait for you and in 2018 cost 300 Soles.

Where to stay

Huaraz - many great climbing hostels exist including La Casa de Zarela and Monkey Wasi.

Grade Route

Climb an initial 200m snow and ice ramp average around 55 degrees with a slightly steeper section at the top. Navigate the flat and featureless glacier to the final ramp leading to the summit.
