Summary

Very quiet crag in a beautiful alpine environment. Routes for everyone operating in the moderate to upper grades.

Approach

There are two ways to approach the crag from the valley floor (Rütti). Either on foot which takes around 2 hours or more depending on how fast you climb the 750 vertical meters or from Gimmelwald village via the cable car (recommended).

The cable car from Stechelberg to Gimmelwald costs 6CHF per adult one way (July 2019) and takes around 5 minutes. From Gimmelwald follow the main hiking trail from the west end of the village. This descends gently downhill until you reach a bench and obvious sign to the climbing area. Take this to access Fussball and the newer easier sectors at the east end of the crag.

For the hard climbing in Gimmelexpress continue along the main track until you reach a steep gully and signs on left hand side. Head up the well trodden path to a slab and fixed rope. Climb up to the main climbing area.

Where to stay

Peaceful campsite at Rütti with friendly staff and good amenities, several opportunities in Gimmelwald itself and many more in the Lauterbrunnen area.
