Description

An amazing crag with a huge variety of route grades (French 4 to 7/8). The crag is very spacious with some fire places. The beech trees provide some nice shade for the belayers. Mind the tiger mosquitoes, though...

Access issues inherited from Klus - Balsthal

Whilst the Alter Klettergarten is safe even for kids, the Graue Platte, and the other crags to the right are on small paths which require sure footing. The bottom of the cliff is also on a narrow paths generally.

Approach

30 metres to your right as you reach the cliff.

Same start with Auspuff. Petzl bolts, the route is turning right. First to the ledge than right into the dihedral. Nice various climb.----Gleicher Start wie Auspuff. Petzl Plättli, zuerst rechts auf das Band danach rechts in die Verschneidung. Gute Abwechslungsreiche Kletterei.

If this grade is a challenge fo you be aware that there is a slightly run out section above the roof. Climbed more easily on the right direct to the bolt but the bigger holds will tend to lead you left.

A nice route for games with friends. How about only using one hand. It goes with the right hand only!

Alternatively try climbing using the fewest handholds possible. Each time you touch a hold with your hand or below the elbow it counts as one.

Current record is 7 handholds to the top. Put a comment in your log if you beat this!

A really cool route. It is fairly hard like you would expect for a 7a+. There are only 3 bolts on the main section, the fourth one above is not that necessary. The 3 bolts are quite spaced up in comparison to the rest of the crag but they are well positioned. Probably a good idea to use a clipstick for the first one which is a bit high and the cliff can be a bit greasy damp so one might slip.

SPOILER ALERT (BETA): The crux requires a good position of the hand on the left hold (there is a way to crimp it to get more friction) as well as a careful placement of both feet to be able to reach the next hold.
