Description

The Alcove is THE bouldering place; it's short, steep, and fingery. Sunny southern exposure makes climbing here possible year round. The extensively sledge-hammered landings are OK, but a bouldering pad provides ease of mind.

Access issues inherited from Boston

Many of the popular climbing areas in the Boston area lie in protected state parks and urban wildlife areas. Some are even conserved by special interest groups dedicated to preserving the history of climbing in the area. In and around the city, there are many walls and boulders that lie on semi-private and questionable land. Use your best judgement and follow your guides.

Approach

From the parking lot. walk though the gate onto the fire road and follow a well-beaten trail about 100 yards up the hill to the left. Pass through a notch between two ricks to enter the Alcove Area. A more direct trail leaves from the parking lot a few yards to the left of the gate.
