Description

Nice, mostly overhangig climbs on tufas. Some of the tufas stay wet longtime after the rain. Sector only gets shade in the later afternoon (starting on the left side).

Access issues inherited from Homestead

The area between gate 2 and 3 is private land, please behave respectfully!

Approach

Same as Finland Terrace, follow the access trail below Finland Terrace to reach Tufa City.

Ethic inherited from Homestead

When visiting and climbing at the Homestead, please help to maintain the climber trails used to access the climbing and along the base of the walls. Do a little bit of work each time you come and before you know it there will be well-defined and easy to maneuver and follow trails for all to benefit from.

If you choose to add routes to the area, please do your part to continue the Homestead tradition and use good hardware when equipping your routes. Plan your bolt placements to use solid sections of rock and to allow for minimal rope drag. All routes should have lowering anchors at the end of the routes and dangerously loose rock should be removed from the routes. To date there has been no chipping or gluing at the crag. Please keep it that way.

There are two leaver chain draws for the traverse. Be sure to back clean at least one. There is a leaver biner for the 4th bolt so that when you are cleaning it you don't lower into the Saguaro.

Tufa climbing to fun easier 5.10 climbing with a crux at the top. Climb 3 bolts to start getting into the tufas. Pull a few moves to get where the Tufa crux is. Make a large move through a blank section to a popcorn sloper. Mantle the lip and traverse right. Then head up the cool terrain of easier climbing. Clip the last bolt and prepare for the final crux section. Cross over to a blocky hold, set up and make a big move to an ok hold a big shoulder move then the jug lip just above the chains.

FA: Anaya

First route to the right of Way'Stead. Starts on upper tier. Access start via same way as Tufa King and TYD.

Easier moves to get to the low roof. Clip bolt just over the lip from underneath the roof. Here is the crux pull a few hard moves, starting with tufa/pockets then slopey opened handed holds. Then pulling the hardest moves on the route to get established on one of the giant tufas. Clip two bolts on left side of tufa while using holds on the right side of the tufa. One more move just as the tufa disappears then easy terrain to the anchors.
