Powdery dusty rock with a few super hard moves for a 7a. 2 shots, second on tr, as it was just a bit scary. Second shot was better (one rest before I worked it out)… and maybe doable by the third shot, but the powdery lichen and the alternating gusts of freezing winds and hot sun made me chicken out. Pretty sure we were on this route. Nothing on the rock but it was between summer madness and burn.

Not sure why I top roped. Was feeling a bit nervous for some reason. After dogging it up on lead I did 3 more laps, 2 of them back to back, all of them clean. Only on the last lap did it occur to me that yes… I’m an idiot… you could have led this in your sleep. And now I’ve blown the chance of sending this. At least it was stress free. (In hindsight, I’d been glutened and immune system was slowly crashing. Spent the last week in Leo sick. Maybe next time…)

Rope drag is the crux. Maybe more like 60m? Lowering to the first anchor, belayer has to climb up to first bolt at about 10m. We had an 80m rope. Long slings essential on first pitch near the first anchor. Someone had removed one of the lower off mallions on the first pitch. The anchors aren’t joined so we left a biner. Hopefully it doesn’t get stolen.
