Limitazioni per l'accesso ereditato da Ontario

In the more populated areas of Ontario, especially southern and south-western Ontario (within a few hours drive of Toronto) access is often complicated, with many cliffs closed to climbing. The Ontario Alliance of Climbers (OAC) monitors this, and negotiates for access to cliffs, or to avoid closures. They maintain a crag status list at: https://www.ontarioallianceofclimbers.ca/crag-status/

The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry also maintains an online crown land use policy atlas. This can often be used to determine the ownership status of the land on which a cliff is located in Ontario. It can be found at: http://www.giscoeapp.lrc.gov.on.ca/web/MNR/NHLUPS/CLUPA/Viewer/Viewer.html .

Avvicinamento

Take Highway 6 to Emmett Lake Road, just south of Cyprus Lake. This is a two way road with loose gravel. Conditions of this road can change suddenly - Please drive safely.

At the fork in Emmett Lake Road, fork left to the parking area.

Do not park on the road if the lot is full.

Pay the parking fee (currently $11.70) and follow the trail for about 1km to the shoreline, go left / west toward a rocky bluff. Go around the bluff and past the Lakeside Daisy boulders to Shelf Beach area.

Etica

The endangered Lakeside Daisy is the plant the climbers need to be able to recognize and care for. This small yellow endangered flower lives along the shore and on the actual boulders before the Crab.

The key animal to be aware of is the Massausga Rattlesnake. This snake is also one of Canada's species at risk. These snakes are venomous.

Please ensure you don't disturb these snakes.
