Access: "Access forbidden" sign

On the dirt road towards the crag, there is chain restricting passage with a sign saying that it is private property and that access is forbidden. There is also a phone number on it, which we called, and it seems that the owner doesn't mind people passing by to access the crag. Therefore, it seems safe to just pass over the chain and walk towards the crag.

Descrição

The climbing area of Monte Vardia is on a small hill by the city of Chania and has a panoramic view. The main climbing area consists of a wall that is 100m wide and 6-12m high. Since the wall faces north-northwest it is suitable for climbing all year long, except 2-6pm in the summer. There are various rock formations which make rockclimbinghere very aesthetic. Even though the limestone rock appears to be unstable this is not the case. Almost every possible route has been climbed. Boulder problems are marked with a red arrow and routes require a rope are marked with a blue arrow.

Really cool place, great view, nice routes but not too high (13 meters max).

The crag is one of the most climbed in the area, due to its proximity to the town, its beautiful view of the town and its sunset and the rock quality. Facing to the West the area is best climbed during the early morning or late afternoon during summer and winter. The pitches are short 12-20m and mostly technical - balancy featuring grades from 5a to 7a and more. Some boulders are marked with red paint as well.

This is a really interesting spot! I've been for the first time just a few months ago and been really impressed. It's just a breath from the city centre with superb view to the city of Chania and the harbour. The climbing area consists of a face around 100 meters wide and up to 12 high. It's well bolted and you wont face any run out here. You can climb all year long in Monte Vardia except the very hot summer days and between 13:00 to 17:00 o'clock.
