The Dolomites (Italian: Dolomiti; Ladin: Dolomites; German: Dolomiten; Venetian: Dołomiti: Friulian: Dolomitis) are a mountain range located in northeastern Italy. They form a part of Southern Limestone Alps and extend from the River Adige in the west to the Piave Valley (Pieve di Cadore) in the east. The northern and southern borders are defined by the Puster Valley and the Sugana Valley (Val Sugana). The Dolomites are nearly equally shared between the provinces of Belluno, South Tyrol and Trentino.

There are also mountain groups of similar geological structure that spread over the River Piave to the east – Dolomiti d'Oltrepiave; and far away over the Adige River to the west – Dolomiti di Brenta (Western Dolomites). There is also another smaller group called Piccole Dolomiti (Little Dolomites) located between the provinces of Trentino, Verona and Vicenza (see the map).

One national park and many other regional parks are located in the Dolomites. In August 2009, the Dolomites were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Located in the "Valle del Sarca", Arco and its wider surroundings offer a lifetime worth of vie ferrata, sport and multi-pitch climbing on limestone. While high season is from early spring to late fall, Arco offers climbing year round. Amongst the hundreds of crags in the region there is always one that is dry, sunny or shady and at the right altitude to make it a pleasant spot for your day out. The same can be said regarding grades and styles of climbing. There is enough for everyone. From beginners to top athletes, from slabs to steep overhangs, from boulders to multi-pitch climbs - you choose it!

Be aware that the area is especially popular around Easter or other holidays when many German and climbers from all over the world flock to here. While this might make it hard to find a table in your favourite pizzeria, there is always a crag that will be deserted, even during high season. Make your choice.

Many crags in the area of Arco are located on private land and the huge popularity of climbing and the resulting crowds brought it with it, that issues with land owners popped up in the past and continue to pop up from time to time. Please be sensitive to regional closures and limitations to access. Stay informed and stick to local regulations.

Arco is located just north of Lago di Garda and less than 40km South West of Trento in the region of Trentino-Alto Adige / South Tyrol (Südtirol). It is easily reached either from the highway connecting Milan with Venice (West - East) or from the highway from Innsbruck (Austria) to Verona (North - South). While some crags are in walking distance from town or the camp sites, many will require you to have a car or transport.

Arco is a touristy place with climbing tourists being a major group. You will find all sorts of accommodation, from camp sites to hostels, agriturismos and luxury hotels. Be aware that during high season - for example around Easter - many popular places, including camp sites, might be fully booked.

历史

The history of climbing in Arco is almost as old as the history of climbing itself, at least of sport climbing. Sport climbing in Arco started in the early 1980's and often Arco, or the climbers developing and climbing in that area, set the standards. It was also in Arco that climbing competitions became popular with the first Arco Rock Masters in 1985.

South Tyrol is a highly mountainous region and thus also offers endless climbing possibilities.

You can choose between vast, warm valleys, full of apple trees, wine and even palm trees, where you might experience an almost Mediterranean feeling. On the other side, South Tyrol also has a wilder, more rugged, but equally impressive side: the impressive Dolomites, Alpine flora with some of the highest peaks in the Eastern Alps such as the Ortler. In between, there are high-Alpine pastures, deep valleys, earth pyramids, crystal clear lakes, roaring waterfalls and endless cliffs. Make your pick!

Di rapido accesso e adatta per chi inizia a scalare per la prima volta oppure per chi vuole provare tiri di medio/facile difficoltà: 4a-6a, chiodatura nuova e ravvicinata. IMPORTANTE l'uso del caschetto: in quanto falesia nuova, c'è alta probabilità di far cadere qualche sasso mentre si arrampica

Si parcheggia la macchina in prossimità del Frantoio Martini (ghetto case gottardo, loclità Vo'). Da lì per 450 metri nel bosco e 100 mt di dislivello si raggiunge la base della parete (10 minuti). Al cartello BOSCO DEGLI ELFI – PER LO SCOIO (5 metri più avanti – ometto) vi troverete 3 sentieri di cui uno che procede dritto, uno sulla destra che sale, prendete invece quello ancora più a destra che procede di traverso poco visibile, ma in quel punto è ben visibile la parete della falesia e un albero con un tronco tagliato.

ATTEREZZATORI: sono stati diversi e vanno ricordati in modo particolare N. Crudele e A. Golzi che hanno scoperto la falesia, F. Binelli, P. Cavallanti, A. Nani. Nel 1999 la parete è stata interamente riattrezzata a fix da E. Pinotti con l’aiuto di numerosi compagni. SOLE: la falesia è esposta a sud-ovest, al sole dalle 10,00 in poi.

ROCK: compact sandstone notches, lists very sharp and cracks. CLIMBING STYLE: technical, focusing on the movement of the foot. NAILING: very good to fix 10 mm and glue-in bolts. ATTEREZZATORI: they were different and should be mentioned in particular N. Cruel and A. Golzi who have discovered the cliff, F. Binelli, P. Horsemen, A. Dwarves. In 1999, the wall was completely retooled to fix E. Pinotti with the help of many comrades. SUN: the cliff faces south-west, the sun from 10.00 onwards.

Da Piacenza verso Bobbio lungo la S.S. 45 della val Trebbia: arrivati al paese di Perino, dalla piazza principale prendere a sinistra con direzione Bettola - Passo del Cerro. Appena fuori dal paese si parcheggia sulla destra di fronte ad una sterrata con sbarra che scende nel greto del torrente Perino (cava di ghiaia con ampio piazzale) e in breve, guadando facilmente il torrente, si raggiunge la base della falesia (5’ dall’auto). In caso di guado difficoltoso si può raggiungere la falesia dall’alto. Prima di entrare nel paese di perino (località Due Bandiere) svoltare a sinistra con direzione Pillori; salire lungo la stretta strada asfaltata prendendo poi a destra la deviazione per Pillori Chiesa. Scendere con l’auto oltre la chiesa parcheggiando comodamente a la to del cimitero; da qui a piedi lungo una evidente e comoda traccia di sentiero che scende nel bosco sottostante e in 5’ porta alla base della falesia.

From Piacenza to Bobbio along the S.S. 45 of Trebbia: arrived at the country of Perino, the main square, turn left in the direction of Bettola - Passo del Cerro. Before entering the village of Plum (locality Two Flags), turn left in the direction of Pillori; climb along the narrow paved road to the right and then taking the detour to Pillori Church. Get off with the car over the church parking conveniently to the cemetery and from there walk down a clear and easy path trail that descends into the forest below and in 5 'to the base of the cliff.

From the village of San Vittore, cross the roman bridge over the Sentino river and take the path immediately to the left (drinking water fountain) that runs alongside the river. You cross a characteristic wooden bridge continuing to skirt the river. At a cairn you start to climb to the right in direction of the cliff.

All six sectors are situated on the Monte Eolo by the village of Cesi (TR). Sant´Andrea has an easy access and offers 13 climbing-routres graded from 5b to 7a. The sectors by the towers are connected by labyrinth of paths, some of them very exposed on steep terrain. The stone is clean and compact. A nice place to visit from spring to autumn. Due to altitude and a soft wind not to hot in summer. An interesting 4 pitch route takes you back to the starting point. The routes where bolt from Mimmo Scipioni (Ref: Blocca, from Luca Bucciarelli, Alvise Mario and Alfredo Smargiassi.)

For Sant´Andrea: From the village of Cesi walk in direction of Sant´Erasmo. By the first left corner take the patch near the wall on the right for 5 minutes. A sign saying Sant´Andrea will lead you to the sector. For the sectors by the towers: Drive to Sant´Erasmo. Walk to the church and the over to the first tower. Find fix ropes and follow down for 5 minutes.

There are not so many options close to Cesi. You can stay at he local Hotel "Il mulino del Duca" or at some of the airbnbs in the village and around it.

Park in Sant'Oreste. Follow the signs for 'Riserva Naturale del Soratte'. Once past the barrier (for cars), follow the road up to the (Santa Maria delle Grazie) Sanctuary. Take the steps up to the Sanctuary and walk along its right walls around the back and follow the path until you reach the remains of the Eremo di Sant'Antonio. Walk behind this and from the lovely outlook spot you reach, you will see a path going down away from the Eremo (in the direction of the Santuary). Follow this path to the crag.

In the summer, the crag is in the shade from about 12:00.

准入问题

The crag is in the regional natural park 'Costa Otranto - Santa Maria di Leuca'. Climbing is tollerated, possibly because the place is very busy during the summer months with people enjoying the lovely waters, but one should be extra clean and respectful of the place\nature. This is not necessarily true of the beach going folk, but I like to think that we climbers know better. The bins get full quickly and it can be a good idea to bring your own plastic bag for rubbish.

The crag can be reached from both sides. That is, either from the town of Gagliano following the signs for 'Sentiero il Ciolo', and there is a parking just before the parth starts, then the climbs are two minutes further on. Otherwise one can reach the crag by following the road along the coast and parking by the bridge, and then walking up to the crag.

Climbing in the Palombara Valley (Palombaio), in the municipality of Rignano Garganico, is allowed only with the authorization issued by the National Park Authority of the Gargano. Climbing without authorization or in discrepancy from it is punished with an administrative penalty. The authorization must be requested from the Park Authority by 30 September of each calendar year and is valid for the following calendar year. The application form can be downloaded.

Furthermore, according to the regulation, it is strictly forbidden to write on the rock walls or to mark the slopes, damage or alter the environment, leave rubbish, ropes, chains, plates or other supports, metallic or not, that are visible on the wall, with the exception of the bolts that are strictly necessary for the routes.

Cliff with 2 sectors, directly above the famous Sentiero Degli Dei (Walk of the Gods) on the Amalfi coast. Amazing views, variety of climbing styles including tufas on overhangs and delicate face climbs.

Follow the signposted Walk of the Gods from the town of Bomerano (ideally from the carpark at the end of the road 'Sentiero Degli Dei' although parking is tight and limited) approx 20 min to the crag - it is only metres away above the walking track at one of the best scenic points. Water is available from springs along the path. Continue on to Micelle town another 30min for proper toilets and refreshments. Alternatively, take the Walk of the Gods from the other direction starting in Positano and hike the additional 1,500 steps up.

Dall’autostrada (uscita Lamezia Terme) seguire le indicazioni per la frazione Sambiase e raggiungere il cimitero, da questo prendere la direzione “Terme di Caronte”; raggiunto lo stabilimento termale proseguire 500 metri e posteggiare l´auto (fare attenzione a lasciare l’auto in maniera ordinata senza intralciare il passaggio delle persone che abitano li vicino). Attraversare il fiume (secco d´estate), seguire il sentiero, raggiunta la boscaglia seguire la corda fissa fino alla falesia.
